I got a taped call from Al Gore last night. There was something strange about it. Here's what it said:
GORE'S VOICE: This is former vice Precident Al Gore calling to urge you to vote no on the recall. Gray Davis has been a solid progressive governor and deserves to finish out his term. We simply cannot let the right wing Republicans roll back the progress California has been making under Governor Davis. It is very important that you vote no on the recall. Also, as insurance against a strong pro-recall turnout, and to keep a Democrat in the governor's office, continue on the ballot and vote "yes" for Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante to keep the governorship in Democratic hands. So remember, vote no on the recall, and then vote for Cruz Bustamante, who is located on your ballot under the letter "B." Thank you.
WOMAN'S VOICE: Paid for by Progressive Democrats and Independents against the recall. Major funding by Anheuser-Busch.

Annheuser-Busch makes: Budweiser, Michelob, Busch, some specialty beers, Malt Liquor, Bacardi, Red Hook beers, Taquiza, and Doc's Hard Lemonade.
I can't believe these guys would pay to spread Bustamante/Davis propaganda. I called them at (314) 577-3131 to complain. The regular (toll-free) complaint line is (800) 342-5283 (1-800-DIAL-BUD) but they don't start picking-up until 7am. Look, I know these guys gave $95,000.00 to Davis last go around, but this just stinks.

This could be true, but with A-B coming out against Holden in Missouri, I doubt it.

Keep an eye out around the polling places for Annheuser-Bush semis, maybe be planning to reward the voters for their NO on recall vote.
To: dbc1w
Wait a minute. I thought if you voted "No" on the recall, you couldn't vote for a replacement. Is this correct?

Coors has always been the domestic beer of Right Wing Whackos anyway.
There will be no more A-B products in this house.

This doesn't pass smell test.I agree. AFAIK A-B has always supported the Second Amendment and shooting sports, so it doesn't seem to me that they'd support Davis.

The Busch family were famously conservative Republicans. Old Augie must be turning over in his grave.

yea you have to be drunk to vote for Bustamante! aka boostyourtaxes

Wait a minute. I thought if you voted "No" on the recall, you couldn't vote for a replacement. Is this correct? Common sense would call for that but we're not even in the same zip code in this case. You can vote no on recall and yes for whoever you want.

A-B, as does any corporation, wants a stable government environment in which to do business. If A-B is against the recall I would think they foresee "sin taxes" being imposed on among other vices, alcohol to balance the budget. Of course, this would affect sales of their beverages which has an adverse effect on A-B shareholders. As with most corporations, their political philosophy is neither liberal or conservative. It's increasing shareholder wealth. If it takes being liberal (e.g. being anti-recall) or if it takes being conservative (e.g. supporting gun rights) and if it returns wealth to shareholders, then the corporation will do it.
Makes sense that A-B would be against the recall.

Dude, you don't have to excerpt the Kausfiles. It's OK to post the WHOLE article. Rule of thumb is don't excerpt unless you are told to when you post.

Major funding by Anheuser-Busch.Another reason for never drinking the crap they call beer.
To: JesseHousman
Once upon a time Schlitz was the leading beer. Then some idiotic company exec came up with the "brilliant" cost-saving idea of putting in a chemical additive to speed up the brewing process. Result was that additive changed the taste of the beer for the worse and Schlitz rapidly ended up in the toilet. This has to go down as one of the WORST business decisions of all time. Maybe now Anheuser-Busch will follow suit with their dopey funding to oppose the recall.

I have a hard time believing the AB corporation knew about actually funding such a call. Maybe a Calif. manager made the decision? I would check it out before you rip them a new one.
To: PJ-Comix
Schlitz tastes awful. Absolutely awful. It's nice to find out why.

Sort of makes you wonder how much they put in the pockets of home town boy Li'l Dickie Gephardt. However, I'm unable to join a boycott since, in my humble but experienced opinion, Budweiser is the shi**iest beer in America and I haven't had a glass of their swill in decades.
