McClintock Campaigns In San Diego
NBC SAn Diego ^ | Oct. 4, 2003 | NBC San Diego

Posted on 10/04/2003 12:48:13 PM PDT by FairOpinion

McClintock said the allegations against Arnold Schwarzenegger should be treated with skepticism. If the allegations prove to be true, McClintock said Schwarzenegger should get out of the race.

McClintock said he will not drop out of the race despite the fact some believe he is committing political suicide. "I've seen all of the preliminary threats," he said. "'If you don't get out of the race, we'll end your political career.' My response is, I don't negotiate with terrorists."

Are those the terrorists he's complaining about?

Wow!

That's OK, we don't need Tom.....Arnold is ahead. If McClintock wants to embarrass himself...let him go.

I like your optimism. And I think there is much truth in what you wrote.

Chantal, cheri, a mandate would be so very helpful.

I have no idea, but if you call up the Davis campaign, you could find out.

By the way, if you do get to a Davis "rally", please take pictures or a video. Not just for fun, it may become a great collectors' item.

I heard that the crowds were overwhelming.

I think Arnold is headed for his mandate. There is good reason to believe he will get more votes than Davis did a year ago, and good reason to believe he will break 50%, regardless of what Tom does.

I suspect that some of the threats come in over the phone or in unsigned mail.

In any case, the cowards who send such threats lack the ability to make good on them.

Have you seen my other videos?

This one would appear to be most appropriate. It was at the time of the Simon campaign when we freeped a Davis rally.

Unfortunately, I learned only now that the only event on the Davis calendar for this weekend on his web page was this morning at 9:00 in Santa Monica. That's a great pity since I would have gone if I'd known about it :-(.

Where did you find out about 35 people showing up for Davis? That must have been interesting to see.

If this was today's rally, Davis was pretty dumb to have a rally at 9:00am. You do that if you're afraid too many people will show up and you need to force 'em to get up early to attend. Make it 10:00am at the earliest and more people will go.

He probably remembered the 2,500-odd who showed up at 9:00am to see Arnold. Well, Arnold could have that "too many" problem, in spades, so of course his rally's early.

If I can figure that out, surely Davis could too?

D

*You seem to understand why Mexicans would want to break our immigration laws better than you understand why huge majorities of Americans and legal immigrants (not just conservatives) want them enforced.

**I'm listening, make your case. [I won't say "convince me," that has a pretty nasty sound around here these days.]

The case is self evident, in your #65...

If I were in Mexico, I would get to America (the land of opportunity) any way I could. The poor in America probably live better than 95% of the Mexicans.
The immigration laws I would be breaking are not "mala in se" (bad in themselves) but "mala prohibita".

Arnold does believe in security and background checks, so he may well be harder on the border jumpers in the future, he's just not that upset about those already here. Neither am I. Like I said, If I were a Mexican, I would try to get to America any way I could.

I fail to see why many of my fellow conservatives are so harsh on this point.

On the matter or Illegal Aliens, you're empathizing with the Mexicans, while failing to understand not just your fellow conservatives, but most Americans, who don't want the Illegals here.

Honestly, I fail to understand. Therefore it is NOT self-evident in my post, and I ain't no dummy, neither.

I asked you to explain, to make your case. I am, in truth, interested in what is so bad about my position.

I posted it on various threads this morning, then someone posted it as a thread:

Dems hammer on accusations as actor barnstorms the state. Small crowd for Davis
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/995107/posts

About half way down it says that about 35 people showed up for the Davis rally.
Davis gets 35 people at a rally,
Arnold get thousands.
Tom gets nice, open fields according to HLL's picture, though I would like some real numbers

The bridges were burned by those threatening McClintock's career.

Threaten? I believe the word that was used by those in the know was negotiate, not threaten. But then Tom doesn't understand the word negotiate, which is why he would not be an effective governor. The fact that he cannot even get along with people in his own part speaks volumes.

You expect him to try to cross anyway?

I don't expect anything from him.

Terrific response from a man whose beliefs and actions are founded on unshakeable conservative principles--not painted-on tinsel-town glitter and steroid-plumped pecs. However, calling the snivelling snot-nosed weasels who daily threaten to deep-six his political career "terrorists" needlessly aggrandizes their motives. They are two-bit thugs.

I haven't called you a dummy.

However, I fail to understand how you can't understand the conflict between your statements which are empathetic to lawbreaking Mexicans and your statement that you don't understand your fellow conservatives antipathy to the lawlessness of those very Mexicans. Since that antipathy is shared by 60% or more of Americans in poll after poll, then by extension, it appears to me you don't understand their antipathy for Mexican Illegal Alien lawlessness either.

Your soft-on-Illegals position is bad because it fails to adress reality.

Amnesty encourages more Illegals.
Talking about Amnesty encourages more Illegals.
Failing to enforce our laws and deport Illegals encourages more Illegals.

And...

Most Americans are not soft-on-Illegals.

Your position is bad on both principle and pragmatism.

There's a reason why pro-Amnesty politicians like Schwarzenegger, McCain, Hatch, Cornyn, and Bush are forever splitting hairs to cloak their true intentions from the electorate: voter backlash.
