McClintock said the allegations against Arnold Schwarzenegger should be treated with skepticism. If the allegations prove to be true, McClintock said Schwarzenegger should get out of the race.
McClintock said he will not drop out of the race despite the fact some believe he is committing political suicide. "I've seen all of the preliminary threats," he said. "'If you don't get out of the race, we'll end your political career.' My response is, I don't negotiate with terrorists."

And those people are terrorists??
"Ruthless, unprincipaled political hatchetmen," actually. However, "I don't negotiate with terrorists" rolls off the tongue more easily, has entered the colloquial lexicon, and is being used as a bit of political hyperbole. This is a molehill.

HOW do we mend the fences?
We cannot... the bridges have been burned intentionally from the other side of the shore.
Overtures are STILL being extended to Tom... yet HE will not STOP the "terrorist" labelling of party leadership, as is rather apparently reported in this news report...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/995178/posts (Conservative CA Assemblyman, R. Whip) Rick Keene gives Arnold (Schwarzenegger)thumbs up
"I believe that at this critical time, we must unite behind the strongest candidate who can actually seize this unique opportunity to restore real management to California state government," Keene said. "The Davis/Bustamante regime cannot be allowed to continue."
"At this stage, it is time to close the ranks."
Keene serves as an Assembly Republican whip and represents all or part of seven counties - Nevada, Sierra, Placer, Yuba, Butte, Plumas and Lassen.

Would you say the same, if Arnold had called McClintock supporters "terrorists"?
Heck, you were the one who was making a mountain out of a real molehill, about Arnold having called conservatives "right wing crazies", even though the event never even really happened.

You wrote: "It will fracture more when the GOP pushes Amnesty for Illegals sometime in the next six months. Arnold has promised to be on the wrong side of that issue."
Frankly, I can't see going to the wall for this issue. If I were in Mexico, I would get to America (the land of opportunity) any way I could. The poor in America probably live better than 95% of the Mexicans.
The immigration laws I would be breaking are not "mala in se" (bad in themselves) but "mala prohibita".
Arnold does believe in security and background checks, so he may well be harder on the border jumpers in the future, he's just not that upset about those already here. Neither am I. Like I said, If I were a Mexican, I would try to get to America any way I could.
I fail to see why many of my fellow conservatives are so harsh on this point.

"Overtures" in the form of threats to his political career. Folks who make threats aren't bridge-builders.

Amusingly enough, do you know that "Pontifex Maximus" means the Greatest Bridge Builder? So people who make threats cannot be Popes. . . .
okay, okay, so it's poor humor; at least it's humor.

"Overtures" in the form of threats to his political career. Force is their only principle.

Oh, really?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/991136/posts "The Fury of McClintock Scorned
Why would McClintock risk handing the governorship to the most liberal Democratic candidate on the ballot? The answer is revenge an irrational emotion in politics that often trumps all others. McClintock is getting even.
McClintock was the only one of California's 40 state senators who did not receive a safe district in the 2001 reapportionment, which says something about how his colleagues view him. Next year, he has to run for reelection to the Senate, and he will be seeking votes in a new, relatively moderate district that extends up the coast into Santa Barbara County, where he has not run before."

Getting endorsed by McCain should have been enough for some of you to come to your senses... McX getting endorsed by the keyester convinced me of his eventual loss.

Well, see you on the battlefield. If you want a GOP civil war, maintain indifference on Illegal Aliens, and support like-minded politicians. Arnold does believe in security and background checks, so he may well be harder on the border jumpers in the future, he's just not that upset about those already here. Neither am I. Like I said, If I were a Mexican, I would try to get to America any way I could.
Your attitude, and Arnold's, will only insure more Illegals in the future. That's the effect of Amnesty. If it's possible to secure the borders after Amnesty, then it's possible to secure them now. The fact is, the borders will never be secured and jumpers won't be deterred until we summon the will to deport Illegal Aliens in substantial numbers from the American interior. I fail to see why many of my fellow conservatives are so harsh on this point.
Pragmatic wisdom derived from experience. You seem to understand why Mexicans would want to break our immigration laws better than you understand why huge majorities of Americans and legal immigrants (not just conservatives) want them enforced. If the GOP follows the path you outline, I'd like to suggest a new motto: "The Rule of Law: Republicans pretend louder."

I'm listening, make your case. [I won't say "convince me," that has a pretty nasty sound around here these days.]

The 2001 reapportionment was the result of McClintock not selling out to Arnold in 2003?
Fascinating.

By the way, you still have the best line of the whole Tom'Arnold battle (see my tag-line). I loved it, the satire, in its context, was truly wonderful.

No, the point is that McClintock is vulnerable in the Republican primary and that he obviously is NOT regarded well by his own collegues.
To: fqued
HOW does the Cal. GOP re-unite?By enhancing our strengths and improving our weaknesses. Our strengths are our honor, trust, dignity and forgivingness. We act with these principles and learn new ones. Learn new skills to improve our weakness, become tolerant, become inclusive, become the voice of dignity for all the people. Capture the middleground and affect real change.
