A Deplorable October Surprise (Susan Estrich re: LA Times)
LA Times ^ | 10-03-03 | Susan Estrich

Posted on 10/03/2003 4:08:49 AM PDT by veronica

So this is the October surprise? The Los Angeles Times headline that Arnold Schwarzenegger groped and humiliated women?

None of the six women interviewed by The Times filed legal charges. Four of the six were quoted anonymously. Of the two who were named, one, a British television hostess, had told her story to Premiere magazine years ago, and it has been widely known and largely ignored. The other recounts an alleged incident of fondling at Gold's Gym nearly 30 years ago.

What kills me is that the Times put this in its editorial page. Estrich is telling her fellow travelers over at the LAT that all they did was to confirm the worst suspicions of conservatives about the Press. She also believes this will backfire on Davis and Bust-A-Move. In that, I believe she is correct.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Susan is one liberal I genuinely respect. She is an avowed liberal but she is intellectually honest.

She's tough to listen to, with that voice, but I have on several occasions heard her acknowledge or admit to conservative/GOP points, even if she disagrees with them. We'd all be better off if a few national-level Dems would follow her lead.

Susan was on Hannity and Colmes last night talking about this. Normally I turn it off if she appears, but for some reason I stayed. She *really* *slammed* the L.A. Times about this "Attack Arnold" article of theirs, and talked about this piece that she had written about it. It was quite amusing. Hooray for Susan, and put her in the "has some principles" camp.

I don't often disagree with the politics of Susan Estrich, but I have always admired her for her passion. She certainly got it right this time. Bravo!

This has the stink of Mulholland all over it. I can't even think of a word to adequately describe the ickiness of that man. He always has the look and sound of someone about to come completely unglued. Scary.

I agree. Decent people are dead tired of this crap. Between this and the Dems forming a defense fund to challenge the results of an election that hasn't even taken place yet, they're showing how unhinged they are.

As Martha would say, "It's a good thing."

I watched Susan on H & C also and it changed my opinion of her quite a bit.

I was also impressed with Alan Colmes and how he handled it.

Did you see the tribute to both Susan and Alan than Sean Hannity did shortly after they gave their takes on the Arnold smear?

I thought it was excellent.

Ditto. Years ago when her column started running in my local paper, she would alternate between screeching liberal insanity one week, and balanced, reasonable, common sense (almost conservative) the next.

I concluded that the nutty liberal columns were written when she was off her meds.

I didn't see that, but I did see one segment on H&C last night and heard Colmes defend Rush Limbaugh! I couldn't believe my ears.

It's important to note that under the new CFR, the LA Times and other liberal rags would be able to smear conservative candidates with reckless abandonment and the victims of the smears would not be permitted to purchase and run ads to rebut the charges within 60 days of an election.

The only recourse a conservative candidate would have would be a press conference or public statement--which news outlets could choose or not choose to cover.

This last ditch smear campaign is one of the best reasons yet why CFR cannot and should not be allowed to stand in its present form.

I agree of course that this is a high intensity hit campaign. But, I'm a NYer and I honestly don't understand why so many here want Arnold to run California. What do they think he can do for the state? This is a serious question.

Q. What does Ted Kennedy have to say about groping women?

A. "We will cross that bridge when we come to it"

I hate to say this, but there is a LOT of liberals out there that aren't as whacked out as the people running the Democrat party right now. Regardless of whether logic supports their worldview, some liberals have a shred of decency. I think it angers these people to see their party hijacked like this.

Listening to Ed Gillespie certainly pisses me off as a conservative. 'Big Government Republicans' - please.

I can't believe that I am going to agree with Susan Estrich, but she has this one right.

Well, hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day, right?
