Warren Moon Says Limbaugh's "Comments Were Racist", and That He "Has Always Said Racist Things"
Posted on 10/02/2003 8:08:18 PM PDT by Libs R Evil
Warren Moon was just on Great Van Sustern's rotten show saying that Rush Limbaugh said was racist and he said he's always said racist things but this time he got caught. And James Brown from FOX mostly agreed.

Rush simply had the courage to say the things that many football aficionados have been aware of for some time. There is a tendency by announcers to slather praise on lousy or mediocre qb's who happen to be black. It was never more apparent than the Sunday night game a couple of weeks back between the Vikes & Bears. Kordell was terrible, Culpepper was mediocre. The announcers were falling all over themselves spouting how smart and brilliant each of these two were.

Of course there's a racial double standard in this country. It's written into affirmative action laws. It underlies those ridiculous rules that force teams to interview black coaching candidates, instead of choosing to interview those whom they think will do the best job.
But we are all supposed to play the game, and pretend that, after they have lowered the standards for a certain group, there is no difference in merit or ability.
This is such a crock.

And James Brown from FOX mostly agreed. I disagree. Moon spouted off about Rush being a racist but James specifically said that you have to be real careful about calling Rush a racist and he DID NOT do so. He said he thought it was unfortunate that Rush introduced race into the topic and defended Donovan's talents. I thought that James Brown was by far the classiest black commentor I've heard on this topic today.

But he flat out attacked McNabb, even tho I think he meant to direct it at the liberal media. That's your opinion. According to that opinion, Steve Young and Mike Irvin also "flat out attacked McNabb" because they agreed with Rush.
It was obvious to me Rush was discussing the MEDIA.

Where the hell is fair and balance on Greta Van Idiots show?
It was a hit piece!!!!

GIVE opinions on footballExactly. On football, not race.
And he went outside that boundary and made a personal comment based on someones skin color. And he got spanked. And people are defending him.

Warren Moon appears to be in the Waning Gibbous phase.

I thought it was to announce the game, not give personal opinions.Kind of hard to do when you're only on the air before the game starts. Rush was there to editorialize and to stir things up. He gave ESPN exactly what they wanted...they just couldn't handle it.

I agree; but the way he came out with it could have been made to clearly fault the media, and not include McNabb.

announce...talk about it....whatever. Was his assignment to give his personal opinions about how a player succeeded? I guess I have not heard any other sports announcer n any other field talk like that. That's because he's NOT an announcer! It's not a minor distinction. An announcer is analogous to a reporter - just the facts. To "talk about" the games, before they're even played is obviously going to entail giving opinions. That was the whole point of his "Rush Challenge" segment each week. To present a provocative topic for debate.

hehe. That's an understatement! But he could have gotten his point across better, differently.

Moon spouted off about Rush being a racist but James specifically said that you have to be real careful about calling Rush a racist and he DID NOT do so.No he said he wouldn't necessarily say they were racist, but said that he "never should have injected race into it".
It was kind of like when Schumer said that he wasn't going to call Ashcroft a racist and then proceded to do so without saying those exact words.
If that's "classy" than "classy" ain't what it used to be.

That was the whole point of his "Rush Challenge" segment each week. To present a provocative topic for debate. Even so, do you think he could have presented his case differently? Or maybe have skipped it altogether?

"You honestly don't think these pre-game shows are spontaneous, do you? "
From what I understand, all of the people on that ESPN show plan what they are going to say before the show starts.

To: RedBloodedAmerican
He excercised his right to free speech-period! This you can't say this and you can't say that crap, is the liberal's ploy to deny any form of speech that doesn't fit their agenda.
