Yep. Can't prove it, but I'd wager that Pincus, Wilson and Mrs. Plame-Wilson (the poor put-upon dear) worked on both the Wilson NYT article and the Leiby-Pincus Washington Post article during that July 4th dinner.

"And Rove appears to be a particularly important target for their smears." This is very odd.
What does Rove have to do with the CIA or Iraq, or Foreign Policy, for that matter? It's funny how they all want desperately to take Rove down.
Maybe they believe their own propaganda, namely, that Bush's brain is inside Rove's skull.

Excellent points. There are several threads (not in Web sense) to this whole saga. I've tried to follow the thread that reveals how this phony scandal was ginned up. Perhaps some enterprising individual will be able to follow the thread as to why and how Wilson was tagged to go to Niger when his trip wasn't necessary. That's what Robert Novak was trying to do when he stepped into the sucker-bait that had been laid by Wilson and Pincus. In addition, and as always, there is the thread about Iraq's WMD, including the uranium mentioned in the sources you provide. What happened to it all?

'"Neo-conservatives and religious conservatives have hijacked this administration, and I consider myself on a personal mission to destroy both." -joseph wilson ' Thank you. This needs to be posted in capital letters on the brains of those who are propogating the lies.
And thanks for sourcing it with the Washington Times:

The question of why the media behaves as it does has a many-layered answer. I just try to urge people to maintain a healthy skepticism about any of these media feeding frenzies until the facts play out. I also try to remind people that news media outlets are businesses first and foremost, and that the product they sell is information packaged as stories. Synonyms for story are tale and yarn. This isn't to say that the news media never tells the truth, only that truth takes a backseat to sensationalism, sex and gossip.

Outstanding analysis, Marron. Thank you for adding it to this thread. Wilson's Niger trip is one of the real mysteries in this saga since it was unnecessary and, as you point out so well, he did nothing much while he was there. He also didn't get himself worked up contemporaneously with reports of the Iraq-Niger connection when they surfaced in Blair's dossier and Bush's SOUA. Rather, some months later, working with Pincus, he sneakily created an excuse to insert himself into the SOUA controversy by writing that New York Times article. I believe the "outing" of his wife was a not-unpredictable happenstance probably just a useful (from his point of view) byproduct of his attempt to discredit the President's rationale for going to war in Iraq.

The reason is Rove's talent and skill serving as the President's political adviser. They believe he is the political genius behind the President's electoral success. So they think that if they can get rid of Rove, the President will not continue to enjoy electoral success. See, Bush is not supposed to be smart enough to get out of bed alone in the morning, let alone win elections. The Left used to pin the "genius behind the throne" thing on VP Cheney, but their efforts to get him through Enron and Halliburton failed. So now they are after Rove.
