The great California debate: Rusher asserts reasonable men, women will differ on GOP candidates
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | Thursday, October 2, 2003 | William Rusher

The Sept. 24th debate among the five major contenders to succeed California Gov. Gray Davis if he is recalled was probably the defining moment of the campaign and highly educational. Those California voters who didn't know their state's finances are in a mess know it now.

Allegations Against Arnold Do NOT Involve LYING
10/02/2003
Posted on 10/02/2003 2:32 AM PDT by stradivarius
Leftists are having a devil's feast with recently reported anonymous disclosures from 6 women that Arnold allegedly touched them in public without their consent on a breast or their behind.
The Leftists believe that if the allegations were true that would somehow make special interest Gray Davis or racist Cruz Bustamante more fit to govern California! The Leftists also believe that honest conservatives who condemned Bill Clinton would be hypocrites to vote for Arnold! ....

GOVERNATOR HAS BUSH CALIFORNIA DREAMIN'
New York Post ^ | 10/02/03 | DEBORAH ORIN
Posted on 10/02/2003 2:55 AM PDT by kattracks
October 2, 2003 -- SUDDENLY, it looks as if Arnold Schwarzenegger really will be California's next Governator. That has Republicans sporting giant grins as they ponder how that would change the political landscape and help boost President Bush in the 2004 election. For starters, it means any Democratic 2004 candidate stumping in California will have to go against the Terminator, who says Bush is doing a great job in Iraq and backed the war. Schwarzenegger was one of the few Hollywood stars to do a Bob Hope and visit U.S. troops.
"It opens the possibility that Bush can win California. I think people want to vote for something. They don't want to vote against something, and the 2004 Democrats all have a negative message," said GOP pollster John McLaughlin, who is part of Arnold's team....

McClintock wins fans among nation's right
Mercury News ^ | Oct. 02, 2003 | Dawn C. Chmielewski

State Sen. Tom McClintock may fall short of his dream of the California governorship, but he walks away with something of a consolation prize: a national reputation as a rising star of the Republican right.
McClintock has emerged as a hero among the nations leading conservatives, who admire his straightforward style and undiluted views. He enjoys the highest favorable ratings of any candidate in the Oct. 7 recall race, according to the most recent Los Angeles Times Poll, even though he trails a distant third in the field of candidates vying to replace Gov. Gray Davis if he is recalled. And even some Democrats have come to admire his principles and integrity during the campaign.

Republicans sell out principles for nothing

Gore Vidal once said, "It makes no difference who you vote for the two parties are really one party representing 4 percent of the people."
For the last couple of months, California Republicans have been urged to abandon their principles in the Oct. 7 recall election for Gov. Gray Davis in order to replace him with a GOP standard bearer....

Actor leads race as outsider. Voters appear unfazed by criticism of Schwarzenegger
MSNBC News ^ | Oct. 1, 2003 | William Booth and Rene Sanchez
Posted on 10/02/2003 12:27 AM PDT by FairOpinion
SCHWARZENEGGER HAS emerged as the clear front-runner in the states historic recall election as the race enters its final days, increasingly viewed by a deeply disgruntled electorate as an optimistic leader and political outsider who can turn California around.
In the past week, he has rallied almost the entire Republican establishment to his side. His television ads are running at all hours. Local news programs cover his every move. And the actor looks like he got a bounce from his first and only appearance at a candidates debate....

Mowed Down by Taxes
By ARTHUR B. LAFFER
SAN DIEGO -- California's recall effort is based 100% on the state's fiscal crisis. Listen up candidates: California's progressive (steeply graduated) tax structure is the cause of the fiscal crisis, which itself is the first-born of the union between fuzzy logic and misplaced emotions. Hurting the prosperous is not an honorable objective, and hurting the prosperous does not help the poor, which is an honorable objective. There is no solution to California's crisis save redressing the fundamental premise underlying California's progressive tax codes....

The Ad Campaign: Schwarzenegger Moves to a Spot With Less Muscle
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1 The television barrage intensifies in the early evening but never lets up all that much a dawn-to-dusk blur of unfiltered promises, denunciations, spin and counterspin.
With nothing but a gray screen behind him, Arnold Schwarzenegger, taut, tanned and cocksure, says The politicians have let us down, and asks viewers to help him help them by voting him into the governors office, and Gov. Gray Davis out....

"Something is better than nothing should disgust conservatives who still believe
in the principles of what is fast becoming a staggeringly misguided party."
Our task is to rebuild a house divided against itself into a citadel of liberty for the coming generation of Californians. The blueprints are there, drafted by the finest political architects in history. The material is there in abundance: the vast natural majority of our fellow citizens. Let's get serious, and let's get started.

Arnold gives plan for first 100 days. (Indian legal status...)
THE WASHINGTON TIMES | 2 Oct 03 | By James G. Lakely
Posted on 10/02/2003 6:56 AM PDT by .cnI redruM
SAN DIEGO Arnold Schwarzenegger, beginning to anticipate victory in the California recall election, yesterday released a 10-point plan for his first 100 days in office.
The plan includes ending the huge tax exemption given to Indian casinos, and repealing new laws that increase the tax on automobiles and allow illegal immigrants to obtain state driver's licenses.
"I'm not here to talk about campaigning; I'm here to talk about governing," Mr. Schwarzenegger said at a Sacramento rally....
