Mass immigration: Suicide pill of the GOP

Normally, the Census Bureau releases its Current Population Survey on a Tuesday, late in September, at the National Press Club. This year, the survey was released Friday afternoon, at the Census Bureau suburban headquarters in Suitland, Md.
When you see the numbers, you can appreciate why Karl Rove would want to get this behind us and move on.
In 2002, median household income in the United States fell for the second year in a row, from $42,900 to $42,409. The national decline was 1.1 percent, but among Hispanics, the fall-off was 2.9 percent.
The poverty rate below $18,392 for a family of four rose from 11.7 percent to 12.1 percent. But, among African-Americans, poverty rose from 22.7 percent to 24.1 percent of the population.
Certainly, the recession of 2001 and the "jobless recovery" go far toward explaining what the New York Times ominously described as "the second straight year of adverse changes in both poverty and income, the first two-year downtown since the early 1990s."
Like the Times, we all remember who was president in the early 1990s, as does George W. Bush.
But there are mega-trends in society that have been working for decades to keep the poverty numbers high and median incomes low. And though they feed the endless expansion of Big Government and prevent any downsizing of the Welfare State, these trends have been endorsed by a GOP Establishment that seems to be committing suicide in broad daylight.
The mega-trends are two: the deindustrialization of America, the direct result of a globalism preached and practiced by Bush Republicans, and mass immigration, also preached and promoted by Bush Republicans.
If you think these marginal changes in the Census Bureau's poverty and income figures are dramatic, consider these September statistics from the Center for Immigration Studies:
During the 1990s, the immigrant Hispanic population in the United States doubled to 14 million. Total immigrant population grew from 19.6 million to 31 million.
The immigrant population from South Asia rose by 141 percent, and from sub-Sahara Africa by 174 percent.
We have in America today a nation within a nation, inexorably expanding, of peoples from continents and countries who have never been fully assimilated into any Western or First World country before.
Many of these folks arrived poor and unable to read, write or speak the English language. Almost all arrived with incomes well below the median of American families.
Their inclusion in Census figures must invariably pull the numbers downward. These numbers then serve as grist for the mills of those who say we must raise taxes for social programs to assist the newly poor among us.
Immigrants consume social services welfare, food stamps, housing subsidies, free schools, prison cells at rates far greater than our native-born. And as long as the immigrant poor continue pouring in, the great American Welfare State will be endlessly replenished with new recruits, and that Welfare State will never disappear.
That is as America's statists and liberals mean it to be. But why are conservatives and Republicans going along?
Under President Bush, perhaps 2.5 million immigrants, legal and illegal, entered the United States, as an identical number of factory jobs vanished. As we export factory jobs abroad, foreign nations export their poor here to be fed, housed, medicated and schooled by U.S. taxpayers.
This is what they call "free trade."
Consider education.
With our native-born population stable, there is no need for new schools, except to replace old schools. New schools, the cost of which is paid by property taxes, sales taxes and state income taxes, are being built by taxpayers primarily for immigrant children, legal and illegal.
In 1960, when America was 97 percent native born, scholastic test scores rose every year. But as children from Third World countries arrive, less prepared linguistically and academically to learn, their test scores drag down average scores. And when the average test scores fall, the education lobby demands more funding "to get the test scores up," even as it demands open borders, which keep the test scores down.
And so the game goes on.
Then, when immigrant kids grow up to become U.S. citizens, they register and vote Democratic. In 1996, first-time Hispanic voters went for Clinton over the Dole-Kemp open-borders ticket 91 percent to 6 percent.
"The Tories are the stupid party," said John Stuart Mill. Wrong on many counts, J. S. sure nailed that one.
Only if they're using stolen and fradulent Social Security numbers which is a felony crime. Actually one of the largest immigrant group is the over 65 year old group ---- the immigrants are bringing in their own elderly to get them on SSI and Medicaid and food stamps. We spend $8000 to $9000 or more a year for each school-age child they bring in ---- how many billions is that a year?
We ought to end Socialist Security right now ---- but it could be saved if SSI, welfare for immigrants, free health care for immigrants, food stamps for immigrants, and free education for immigrants were ended instead and that money was shifted over to Social Security. Also illegals are sending $13 billion or more out of the USA every year ---- money that could make Social Security solvent.
20 or 30 years ago they did that --- but you may not have read or heard they are demanding amnesty. 3 million Mexicans came over to get in on the amnesty of the late 80s, once legal they began to sponsor all their family members so they could come over and get on SSI, Medicaid and all the rest, also many have figured out if they come over pregnant and give birth here, they not only get to stay, they get to collect a fat welfare check, WIC, food stamps and the rest. They are demanding legalization is it means they bring family members here who are unable to work and so can't come on their own. There are something like 100 million Mexicans in Mexico --- something like 25 million Mexicans in the USA ---- that's 1/4 to 1/5 who are living here now ---- they aren't going back.
Every time one comes along Limbaugh and company sabotage their campaign.
Witness Pat Buchanan first, and now Tom McClintock.
Huh?
America has been completely over run with literally *millions* of people on our soil illegally, and this invasion has been going on for twenty years plus now.
Pat is right on the mark, the GOP and the other stupid a$$ party are part of the GD problem....
Here? Dunno. Can't recall that I've heard of some Hmong cultural tradition of murdering women. I do know they have domestic violence problems...not quite the same thing as an Islamic "honor killing."
Are you speaking of the same Hmong that finally got around to developing a written language a few decades ago?
How is that relevant? It's an oral culture. Oral-tradition cultures generally don't have alphabets on their own (though the Hmong apparently have a tradition that they once had a written language, supressed by the Chinese).
By hardworking, self-sufficient people, and a fairly wealthy community did you mean ranking at the bottom of Asian refugee and immigrant groups in family income, averaging about $15,000?
Eh, I was a bit off on that. Still no reason to be a raving xenophobe about 'em. I understand that the kids - second generation - are doing considerably better than their forebears, however, which is typical of many immigrant groups.
So Hmong refugees whose young girls get married in a strange cultural ceremony (that involves the sacrafice of a chicken) at the age of 13 are very much like the Italians, Irish, Russian Jews, and Polish that came a to America 100 years ago?
It doesn't matter if they're alike or not. Frankly, I don't think it would matter to you if they were alike, since your primary motivator here is xenophobia, judging from the sort of things you're going on about. As far as the chickens go - they're ANIMISTS. Animists tend to do stuff like that. And the age of marriage will very likely adjust upward as well - many less-developed cultures allow marriage at young ages, but you don't see that continuing once they immigrate.
You show a helluva lot of contempt for a group of people who are here in the first place because they helped America out while we were in Vietnam. Perhaps you oughta reassess your criteria for hammering on people.
Snidely
Sounds like we're working on getting Asians to need affirmative action and on welfare programs. These people should help bring the stereotype of the Asians down a bit.
You're the ignorant one. What does that have to do with the subject of taxpayers supporting them?
It has everything to do with it. YOU wrote:
Used to be that you had to prove you had someone to help you when you came over here.
And I'm saying that to get in, you still have to have someone to help you over here, unless - like the vast majority of the Somalis coming over - you are a refugee or asylum-seeker. Even then it's not that easy to get in legally.
Oh really. Maybe you need to wake up and realize that Somalians and others have networking. You must think they communicate with smoke signals or something. It goes like this, Somalian comes over, goes directly to center for Somalians that directs Somalian to welfare agency and housing assistance.
Oh, the horror of it all, that they'd actually have a network to help them adjust and get some help getting on their feet, instead of just floundering around for a couple years, during which time they'd be a serious burden.
Are they staying on welfare for extended periods of time? If they are, that's a problem. If they're not, then what are you bitching about? Give 'em a little time to adjust! You seem to want them to be fluent in English and making $25K a year the minute they step off the boat. And that has never been the case with immigrants. NEVER.
Snidely
It's not really my estimate --- it's pretty much the established number ---- a very large portion of that country has moved over here ---- and meanwhile things are getting worse quickly in Mexico. It doesn't lead to much stability or growth when one quarter of a country's population moves out ---- one reason we're seeing the fast disintegration of that society.
Center for Mexican American Studies
"The Mexican origin population of the U.S. has grown to nearly 25 million persons, equivalent to one-quarter of Mexicos population." (As you can see ---- a pretty unbiased source)
Once they catch onto our welfare system, they won't be marrying at a young age, they'll have their children at an early age but never marry.
HALF OF THE POPULATION OF THE MEXICAN STATE OF ZACATECAS NOW LIVES IN THE UNITED STATES, according to the Governor of the state, Ricardo Monreal.
The immigrants send home $2 million a day to Zacatecas, more than the funding the state receives from the federal government.
Thus far this year, Mexicans working in the United States overall are sending back a billion dollars a month, surpassing the record $9.8 billion sent back in 2002.
Don't think so. They control the Legislature by almost 2/3, and every state office, except - as of next week - governor.
YES THAT IS A PROBLEM, THAT'S WHAT I HAVE BEEN TELLING YOU FOR THREE POSTS! IMMIGRANTS HAD TO HAVE SOMEONE HERE TO SUPPORT THEM PRIVATELY, NOT THE TAXPAYER. I CAN USE BOLD LETTERS TOO, AND CAPS!
By the by, this is the second post where you found the need to direct swear words at me. Seems to me, it's funny how you demand love and gentleness for people who come over and suck up my money, but have only rudeness to the one who's supporting them.
P.S. I'm "bitching 'cause it's MY MONEY!
An immigrant still requires a sponsor. Back around 1996, I believe, at the federal level at least, there was a cut back in what government services an immigrant could legally collect. Up until 1980, even a refugee needed a sponsor. Now, refugees who have been in the country for 20 years continue to collect welfare (though they may be working off the books).
I've mentioned before about reading a newspaper article about the buzz in Somalia being "come to Minnesota for the best handouts". They came.
Minnesota? Or Maine? There have been discussions about a massive influx of Somalis into Lewiston, Maine -- many of them from Atlanta. Bigger welfare checks in Maine.
