Call him Al Gore, media baron. The former vice president is close to striking a $70 million deal to acquire Newsworld International, a tiny cable network owned by French media giant Vivendi Universal, media sources said.
Gore and his backers want to turn the digital channel into a liberal-leaning network. His partners include ex-Democratic fund-raiser Joel Hyatt and media investment banker Steve Rattner, who's said to be lining up financing.
Carried in just 20 million homes, NWI airs newscasts from around the world, including reports from the Canadian Broadcasting Co. The net is part of Vivendi Universal Entertainment, the show biz empire that's about to be acquired by NBC.
Reps for Vivendi and Gore declined to comment.

1) Gore is not "leading" this group. Gore is the promotional, gladhanding, headline generating faceboy. He is a certified moron, as we all know.
2) Rattner is a slimy investment banker, a former NYT reporter, and a man with his nose in Pinch Sulzberger's anus. Recall, Pinch is the only person Ann Coulter flatly says is a "traitor". Rattner is a major Dem money man.
3) Diller is a famously gay media mogul. I am pretty sure he is a big Dem donor, but I couldn't get into the opensecrets.org website. I wonder how "arms length" this transaction is likely to be.
4) And of course, scalping the enterprise from the French makes is all perfect.

Re: Your business mans approach.
When I stop to think about this, Al Bore might be on to something here.
I know Ill watch, at least for a while for the sheer entertainment factor. Who knows, it might actually be hilarious enough to garner a huge base of conservative viewers and send the ratings through the roof. And the funniest part would be that the libs would think they were being taken seriously. What a hoot!

Al Gore is...

....media investment banker Steve Rattner, who's said to be lining up financing. "I've looked over your loan request Mr Rattner, let me see if I understand you correctly, the fastest growing network in the country leans rightward, the five top radio shows lean right, left leaning media from CNN to the New York Times are bleeding profusely, and you want to start up a leftward leaning network, is that correct?"

Reminds me of an old addage "give a man enough cable & he'll hang himself!!" Gore has proven he is capable of failing at everything he tries! LOL!!!

GOOD! let the left expose themselves to the real market of ideas. Hopefully it will be as successful as the oxygen channel without oprah's money.
To: kattracks
I wonder how long it will be before the taxpayers will be forced to pay for this?

About the only way they could get people to watch is if they sponsored a no-hold-barred wrestling match among the 10 dimwits. After the last one standing thinks he's won, Algore comes bounding out of the stands in a sweat-drenched, leotard bodysuit and goes after him.
Of course, anyone watching would be unable to eat for several hours afterward.

will the newsreaders desk have a concealed front on the desk? (hopefully they will have better looking interns)

Apparently, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC are not enough liberal networks.

Case intelligence has revealed that the movies ordered included:
On Golden Blonde
Romancing the Bone

Tipper likes the Rolling Stones, Abba and Mac Davis.

And how is Gore going to pay for this? LOL Imagine Gore gets a 1% stake.

To Gore, the networks named are "conservative", not liberal!
To: Liz
What do you have on Steve Rattner, the lib financier behind this latest venture?

Contrary to public assertion, Gore has not wasted all of his money on legal fees, like his side-kick slick willy. Besides, Clinton was dirt poor when he was in the White House, as stated by him..., and Al Gore was just hoping his combustion engine death book would do well. Needless to say, it didn't. And who the hell wants to watch Algore on TV? I suggest Sealy, Serta, and Sterns & Foster sign him up as their spokesperson.
