BROWNWOOD, Texas -- Police say a man was bitten by a rattlesnake while shopping for shoes in a Wal-Mart store in Texas.
Douglas Hatchett of Brownwood was examining shoes on a rack when a rattlesnake concealed behind a shoebox bit him Monday. The snake fell to the floor, where Hatchett stomped it to death.
Police, fire and emergency medical crews were called to the scene.
The 31-year-old shopper and the dead snake were hustled to Brownwood Regional Medical Center. There, the snake was confirmed as a rattler, and Hatchett was treated and released.
Wal-Mart officials say the matter's being investigated and they have no comment.
Brownwood is about 120 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

There, the snake was confirmed as a rattler.
How the hell hard can that be?
"It got a rattle on the tail?"
"Yup"

Yes, the rattling sound when it shook its tail, combined with the dual puncture wounds from the bite would have been adequate confirmation for me.

Police say a man was bitten by a rattlesnake while shopping for shoes in a Wal-Mart store in Texas. In all liklihood, it was really a hooded cobra working for Wal-Mart on an H1-B visa.

Ted Kennedy has snakes in his boots but I don't think he shops at Walmart.

A million dollar snakebite. The guy just won the lottery!! That 5.4 reading on the Richter scale coming from Texas wasn't an earthquake. It was every lawyer in close proximity stampeding to get in line for the lawsuit.

I HATE snakes. Cold, ugly, slimy things that'll bite if the chance presents itself...

LOL. I figured the same thing.
However, this gentleman being from Texas and the kind of hombre that does his own snake-stompin', he might be inclined to be gracious and settle out of court for a reasonable amount.
I would hate to see him feeding the lawsuit industry. In fact, I would much prefer he stomps the lawyers instead of the snakes. (The snakes are the ones wearing the Brooks Bros. suits)

Non-poisonous snakes don't bother me, but I'd admire rattlesnakes from afar.

On the other hand, did anyone observe what went on? He coulda brought the snake dead into the place. Punctured his hand with a non-lethal tap of the fangs. Then when the coast was clear in Aisle 3, thrown it on the floor and stomped on it and hollered.
Dang, he stole my multi-million dollar idea.
