I posted this on another thread and got not on single answer, I'll post it again here and see if I get the same.

Has anyone thought about what might happen if McClintock drops out and davis then cuts loose with some serious dirt on Arnold?

And I'm just asking the question admitting full well that I support McClintock in this.

This is not an Arnold slam etc., simply a what if scenario.

Tom has already sewn up 25 to 35% of his vote at this point by absentee ballot. He'll sew up another 25 to 35% of it on election day no matter what, now that he's waited this long to withdraw. With each passing day Tom means less and less to anyone but the cool-aid sipping sect. He's done his damage, now we'll deal with it.

This man will NEVER get a primary vote from me.

Quote from Tom McClintock: "I have never been popular in the country club wing of the Republican Party."

Country Clubs are full of very successful people. Tom doesn't want success, he wants to be a martyr.

I don't think it's really a huge blow, nor a suprise. The party establishments have their official candidates anyway in a lot of races, this just makes it official and more open.

The blow delivered by the establishment was given a long time ago.

Huge blow! I think he figured it out when Parsky sat on the $600,000 earmarked for Tom's campaign during the Controller election.

Well, at least the CA G.O.P. is showing some guts - only took about 8 weeks.

I like you!!! McClintock has gotten so screwed by the turn-coat Republicans - they stood in line to stab him in the back, and after all McClintock has done for the CA GOP. It's unbelievable.

It varies from each party.(state, local, national).

Endorsements are vastly overrated. Having said that, I think Arnold is headed for victory, though I believe that McClintock is far more qualified for the job.

I don't think even you believe what you wrote about the California Republican Party ... and Bill Simon and millions of other California Republicans and conservatives.

"This announcement comes as a big blow to Tom McClintock"

I seriously doubt that! Tom just said in a recent statement that the "establishment" has never supported him - and he on the contrary gets his support from grassroots conservatives, and that was just fine with him.

DETAILS. What part of the California GOP?

The full state central committee is forbidden by its bylaws to endorse in a recall election.

Is this the executive committee or board of directors of the CRP which is doing this?

In either case, it's a group of largely big-money, big-moderates, country clubbers making the decision, not the grassroots activists who ARE the Party.

Parsky sat on the $600,000 earmarked for Tom's campaign during the Controller election.

There's only one group Parsky hates more than democrats and that's conservative Republicans.

Quote from McClintock: "I have never been popular in the country club wing of the Republican Party."

Come hell or high water, McClintock will remain my hero.

I wish I could remember that quote he made - something about preferring the work of his volunteers to the ramblings of the G.O.P. chairs.

The full state central committee is forbidden by its bylaws to endorse in a recall election.

There is an exception in the bylaws that allows the committee to endorse in a recall election provided certain conditions are met... meeting held, candidates allowed to address the committee, 2/3rds vote, IIRC.

That's the best end for everyone involved not named Davis, Boxer or Bustamonte. However, the California GOP reminds me more and more of The Roman Empire in the 5th Century AD. They have candidates who could really give the Dems a run out there and basically sink the Dems' hopes of recapturing either elected branch of governemnt by making the Dems dump the treasury in holding the Senate seat and the 54 EVs. Instead, if FR is an accurate indication, these Hatfields and McCoys would rather devour eachother's best leadership.

The implaction of your question is that you are desparately hoping that some bombshell will STILL get your boy elected. Can't tell you how that nauseates me. Your guy has lost. He becomes more of an embarassement with each passing day.

Schwarzenegger might be effected by a few percentage points at this stage of the game, but he isn't going to be knocked out.

What your boy has facilitated is a scenario that sees Schwarzenegger damaged by the few percentage points necessary to facilitate Tom's denial of a victory to republicans, and the election of Cruz Bustamante.

Tom will play hell getting elected to any future statewide office unless Schwarzenegger has the good grace to support him, when Tom wouldn't give him the sweat off his b---s in this race.
