It has reached a level of probability that this is no longer principle

Many confuse "principle with everyday bull-headedness. The McClintock campaign must have Baghdad Bob as its lead adviser.

"We are about to succesfully recall the Dem Governor -- "

... and replace him with someone 1000 times worse: Bustamante, if the so-called conservatives have their way.

Great going, why don't you just set up a nuke and blow up CA?

More interesting to me than the Chamber of Commerce Poll is the FReeper Poll. Arnold now leads Tom about 51-45 (adding the "Still with Arnold" numbers to the "Changed to Arnold" numbers, and the same for Tom).

As of a couple of minutes ago, the numbers looked like this:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the big debate, have you changed your mind about who you support for Governor of California?
Still with McClintock
708 votes (37.84%)
Still with Schwarzenegger
783 votes (41.85%)
Changed to McClintock
133 votes (7.11%)
Changed to Schwarzenegger
168 votes (8.98%)
Other
79 votes (4.22%)
1,871 votes total
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So it looks like among "voting" FReepers (granted, non-Californians are voting, too), Arnold is leading Tom. If Tom can't outpoll Arnold in this non-scientific, very right-biased sampling, where under God's yellow sun can he?

It is not surprising that Tom is getting support or at least favorable words from such odd quarters as Indian Tribes, Ralph Nader, and even Bustamonte. Tom needs to do the right thing, and withdraw. It would be in his own best interests to do so; he can't win, and if he causes the election of Bustamonte, he'll be dead politically forever. My guess is he'll do just that, and live to fight another day, perhaps against Boxer in '04.

Yes, you ARE supposed to be " scared " of Cruz and the Dem held state Senate. Since you aren't, then one can and shsould question your judgement, or lack thereof!

Some Republicans would rather suffer and complain and perpetually LOSE, than win even a small amount of what they claim to crave. Some see the glass as 1/2 full, others see it as 1/2 empty; the PURISTS see NO glass at all.

And it's not about Arnold. It's about Arnold's administration, which will be staffed by Republicans. You aren't selecting Arnold or deselecting Arnold. You are deselecting a GOP administration.

"And we are supposed to then be scared of the muddling panderer Bustamante"

Uhhh. . .who said that?

What I hear people saying is that Busty is as bad or worse than Davis. They aren't "scared" of him, any more than they are "scared" of Davis. But they are convinced that Busty as governor would be VERY BAD FOR CALIFORNIA. Can you deny that Busty would be VERY BAD FOR CALIFORNIA?

"If only half the people planning to vote for Schwarzenegger think McClintock is a better choice and more conservative, voting for McClintock would put him over the top. "

If Ahnold is a leftist plant, A RINO and Democrat lite what makes one think votes that leave Arnie would go to a "true conservative" and not back to Davis?

"True conservatives" are not supporting Ahnold.

Right?

Your points are excelent.

Butsamante is a bumbling muddler.

Schwarzenegger on the other hand will ably be able to implent the same and even more leftist policies with the help of the Kennedy clan and other associates in Hollywood.

Some may even be registered Republicans.

If you like Al Gore's environmental polcies, then vote for Schwarzenegger.

These are the same people, who were NEVER so " happy " , in their misery, as when Clinton was in office. Back then, everyone else, here, was miserabl;e too and that gave them great pleasure in the commeraderie of suffering.

These people are DOG IN THE MANGER Conservatives.

I am truly astonished--nay, astounded--to actually hear some Freepers say that they would rather have Busty as Governor than Arnold.

I can greatly sympathize with those who will vote for Tom McC, even knowing that he probably will lose, but to say that Busty would better as Governor than Arnold passes my ability to comprehend.

Schwarzenegger will implement benefits for "domestic partners".

He opposes prop 54.

He agrees with Bustamante on tax payer support for illegal immigrants.

Schwarzenegger opposes school vouchers to allow taxpayers to use the money they all ready paid to send their children to the school of their choice.

I would rather have a democrat carry out a democrat agenda than a Republican.

Schwarzenegger would set a precedent that will move to other states and races which will make the Republicans be unable to run pro-life or pro-family candidates.

It essentially morphs the Repubs and dems. The Repubs will become a center left party and the dems a lefter left party.

I don't think it is that straight forward. For instance, lets pretend that all the conservatives leave Arnold as you hypothesize and they are about 50% of Arnold's 35% or about 17%. First, I think we have to realistically acknowledge the proabability of that happening in the next ten days. I think we can all agree the likelihood of that happening is pretty small if non-existent.

But anyway lets say it does happen. New poll comes out next week and Arnold is at 17% Bustamovemante is at 33% and Mcc is at 34%. Will Arnolds remaining 17% still vote for Arnold knowing that Mcc may win or will a portion of them shift their allegiance to Bustamovemante? Will the liberals and moderates still vote yes for the recall knowing that a full fledged conservative has a good chance of winning?

The whole dynamic of the race would change thus making any such predictions to outcome nearly impossible IMHO. However, I think the first part of your premise that their is some way at this stage in the game to move all conservatives from Arnold to Mcc is highly unlikely.

Hopefully, as the days move closer Republicans will look to see who the front runner is and everyone (other than the truly devoted)will rally around him and Davis will be gone.

BTW. There is a guy on the ballot named Fred Flinstonius from Sacramento. Believe it or not he is even more conservative and more in line with the party platform than Mcc.. although in the latest poll he garners only .005% of the vote. I want to know why some of you on here are not suporting him. Is the test for which candidate to support

A)the guy who is the most conservative and the guy who most closely lines up with the party platform

or

B)the guy who is the most conservative.. and who can win..

If it is A than vote for Flinstonius, If it is B than vote for Arnold.. Of course Flinstonius is a hypothetical person, but what if he was a real person among those 134. Would the vote be cast for Flinstonius over Mcc beacuse he is more conservative.. or would you "compromise your principles" and vote for MCC because he has a better shot of winning.

How many of the replacement undecideds are yes on recall?

Don't know...... undecideds are at 6% but don't know how they break on recall.....

If this poll is close to accurate then something will have to flip the voters for Bustamante to get the necessary vote.... but it can happen easily imo.... the voters can be very fickle.....

Well, at least I can agree with you on this one: a fist in history indeed!

(I just hope that us non-hispanics don't get fisted by Govenor Busty....)
