Last Cub team to win the world series...
OK, the 1906 team didn't win the World Series, but they they did win it in 1907 and 1908. They are arguably the greatest team of all time (Tinkers to Evers to Chance... along with Mordecai "3-Finger" Brown).

I read and/or heard something a few years ago that of all professional teams in all sports, the Cubs have more wins than anyone else.
Of course, since they have been playing for so many years, they also have more losses than anyone else also.

Of course, being an Astro fan, as I am too, also means understanding losing constantly and often. If I remember correctly, now that the Anaheim Angels won the World Series last year, this makes the Astros the oldest team in baseball to not have won a postseason series.
Nonetheless, I still hope the Cubs beat the Braves, as the Braves are the evil team in baseball. :-)

I have to agree with you there. However, Lou Boudreau was my favorite on the radio.
When I was in college, I was the editor of my school paper. I found out that Lou had set up a loan fund for students there. I call Wrigley and asked if I could interview Mr. Boudreau and they sent me two tickets to the game and said to come at about 10 AM.
I got there and interviewed Lou in the radio booth and afterward he invited me to lunch with him at the Pink Poodle which was the media restaurant in Wrigley.
We sat down and were eating lunch when Jack Brickhouse and Vince Lloyd came over and joined us. I was so dumfounded that I never even used the opportunity to conduct an interview with them or take pictures.
After lunch Lou took me up to the pressbox and set me up to watch the game in the pressbox. He also tried to get me a season pass but the Cubs don't give them out to college papers.
I think the Cubs lost that day. I don't even remember the game much. Just being 20 years old and sitting in the press box (best seats in the house) left me agog. It's also the first time I heard anyone say, "The Cubs are the only team that can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory."
I went on to publish an article about Lou in the Suburban newspaper that was affiliated with our school.

Jack Brickhouse and Lou Boudreau WERE the voice of the Cubs to me growing up. At the risk of offending "newer" Cubs fans, I always thought Harry Caray was a mushmouthed drunk in the booth.
How's this: my mom grew up three block from Wrigley, and my first game at the park was during an altar-boy field trip with our parish priest...
Long time ago now, but just maybe this is the year...

Here is the photo of Lou Boudreau that I took on that day.

I totally agree. Lou was personal favorite as I explained above. Jack Brickhouse was much better than Caray. Caray reminded me of Harry Doyle play by Bob Uecker in the baseball movies. Sort of everybody laughing at him while pretending to laugh with him.

Didn't mention Willie Smith or Adolpho Phillips either, the lineup I gave was burned into my brain from about June on that glorious, horrible year! How fitting that the
Cubs retire Ron Santo's number this week. Coincidence, or omen?

Being a Tribe fan in Chicago, I guess this is the second-best thing I could hope for. BTW, our Cleveland Browns Backers Club-Chicago Chapter meets for games at The Cubby Bear right across Addison and Clark from Wrigley Field but there's no way I'd be able to find parking over there today.

GO CUBBIES!
I grew up just south of Chicago in a small Indiana town, watching WGN and listening to Harry...
25 years ago I moved to Georgia and began watching TBS and the Braves - they were REALLY bad then!
This is so kewl... Cubbies v Braves... who shall I root for?
My heart says the winner of Braves/Cubs will take the World Championship!!!

Pitching?
The Twins and their top three starters are about the best there's been since the All-Star break.
We've gotta chance here for an all-Midwest series!

A great lineup. Had they won the WS, at least two more members would have been inducted into HOF (Williams and Santo).

Can you fill me in on this one? I heard of the curse of the Bambino, the curse of Rocky Colavitto but not this one.
