I just heard a GREAT radio ad supporting Tom McClintock for Governor. It was Bruce Herschensohn - - California's MR. CONSERVATIVE -- speaking from the heart. An announcement said it was co-sponsored by California Republican Assemply, so I went to their web site - - and here's the official announcement of the Herschensohn ad:
CRA LAUNCHES RADIO CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT TOM MCCLINTOCK FOR GOVERNOR The California Republican Assembly announced today that it was beginning a radio campaign urging support for Tom McClintock in the recall election October 7th. Bruce Herschensohn speaks candidly with listeners in the 60 second spot confronting the argument that although McClintock is the best candidate, he cant win.
If everyone who has said that would vote for him hed win by a landslide, Herschensohn says. The spot concludes with an appeal from Herschensohn: If you think hes the most qualified candidate, support him. At this point, it doesnt depend on him, it depends on you.

Commendable. Now, what has he ever been elected to statewide in California?
To: churchillbuff
I thought McClintock did the honorable thing and dropped out. He can't win, so I don't see why he's still running...maybe he's hoping Bustamonte or the unions will give a big job in the life after politics.

>>>I guess you were very happy with the result of "punishing " Bush I: 8 years of Clinton.
And now you will be very happy with 7 years of Bustamante.
Yep, these are real "conservatives". :( <<<<
I can't believe these folk!!!! They seem glad that Clinton succeeded. It's this "get even" attitude that seems pervasive in the GOP (eg. Trent Lott, Tom McClintock). It's like "How can I best hurt those who hurt my ego?

(Don't toss away a good vote. GOP needs to win this one. Kalifornia does too.)

"You know what the REAL difference is between Arnold and McC? Arnold is working to DEFEAT Bustamante, while Tom is working hard to ELECT BUSTAMANTE." Yes, Fair, you have said it well. California is dominated by democrats. McC will NOT get democrat votes...Arnold will. It may be very sad news for some of you, but it's true. Of course, this is just my opinion and you can tell me I'm misguided if you like.

If he can't win, why did he come within 20,000 votes of being elected controller? Is it because he's too conservative that you don't WANT him to win?

Why is it that Arnold opposes drivers licenses for illegal aliens -- BUT THEN OPPOSES THE REFERENDUM TO OVERTURN THE MEASURE?
Notice that no Arnold supporter dares answer this question?

Can you answer this question: Why is it that Arnold opposes drivers licenses for illegal aliens -- BUT THEN OPPOSES THE REFERENDUM TO OVERTURN THE MEASURE?

"Herschensohn was the 1992 Republican nominee for the United States Senate in California and was defeated while winning over one million votes more that the national ticket of the Party.
"It was Bush Sr.'s lousy showing that killed Bruce's campaign."
The story perpetuated about Bruce patronizing some sort of pornography enterprise was spread by none other than Babs Boxer's 'hit-team' of former KGB agents.
If I remember correctly the story was without merit. However, the liberal media grabbed the lie, spreading it far-and-wide across this state.
Yes it is true, the Republican Party, and candidate Geo. Bush laid waste to Kalifornia in that election cycle with their wonderful showing. Somewhere between that debacle, and Pete Wilson's election as Governor, this state started its slow slide into the abyss we are in today.
Bruce Hershenson is a man whom I hold in high regard for his Conservative beliefs.

I'm arriving late but you are absolutely correct. I also heard the ad on Friday morning and was elated. I think Bruce has always felt the betrayal of the Republicans after his run against Boxer as he seemed to disappear but that doesn't mean he wasn't right. I hate to see what's happening with Tom McClintock and this crowd here. It's hard for them to even type his name without ridiculing it. Do we really want to belong to a party that has them in it?

Nonsense. We keep answering these silly questions time and time again, but that doesn't stop you diehard BUSTAMANTE supporters from continuing to attack Arnold.
Arnold said he opposes driver's licences to illegals and plans to do something about it AFTER he gets elected. He is keeping his eye on the ball: getting elected. If you don't get elected, you can't push programs through.
Tom is running around with the referendum and the car tax, because he is losing momentum, his candidacy never got traction.
Arnold doesn't need to do that. Once he is governor, he can cancel the cartax with a stoke of a pen, the way Davis introduced it.

McClintock's poor character rules out his being a conservative. No, I don't want him to run because he's a loser.

Arnold intends to win.
Trying to become a "McClintock-lite" would be a kiss of death for him.
To: FairOpinion
And what caused Bush I's "lousy showing"? Read my lips 'no new taxes', Pat Buchanan's brigade, looking at his watch during the debate, to name a few.
He would have lost, with or without Perot, just as party designate Dull Dole lost. So too, will party designate Arnold lose to Tom.

"McClintock pulled his punches, for whatever reason."
Gee - could it be that he sees the handwriting on the wall, and wants to have Gov. Arnold on his side when he runs for the Senate ?

The quality of Davis' replacement DOES have a bearing on the prospects of the recall, and without an Arnie to energize the electorate, this thing would be a lock for Davis. No Arnie, no Davis removal, and Davis' actions the past two days show he knows it, too.He misunderestimated Arnie, like so many :) ===
Exactly. That is why the Democrats keep telling Republicans that Arnold is not conservative enough for them. THAT alone should be a red flag. Prominent Republicans support Arnold, prominent Democrats are lecturing Republicans who they should support: McClintock.

"A Herschensohn endorsement is Grade AAA for conservatives."
But there aren't enough of them to elect anyone...
