I just heard a GREAT radio ad supporting Tom McClintock for Governor. It was Bruce Herschensohn - - California's MR. CONSERVATIVE -- speaking from the heart. An announcement said it was co-sponsored by California Republican Assemply, so I went to their web site - - and here's the official announcement of the Herschensohn ad:

CRA LAUNCHES RADIO CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT TOM MCCLINTOCK FOR GOVERNOR The California Republican Assembly announced today that it was beginning a radio campaign urging support for Tom McClintock in the recall election October 7th. Bruce Herschensohn speaks candidly with listeners in the 60 second spot confronting the argument that although McClintock is the best candidate, he can’t win.

“If everyone who has said that would vote for him he’d win by a landslide,” Herschensohn says. The spot concludes with an appeal from Herschensohn: “If you think he’s the most qualified candidate, support him. At this point, it doesn’t depend on him, it depends on you.”

Herschensohn was the 1992 Republican nominee for the United States Senate in California and was defeated while winning over one million votes more that the national ticket of the Party.

It was Bush Sr.'s lousy showing that killed Bruce's campaign.

Speaking of the feud, it is interesting to note that Herschensohn would be a Senator today if Wilson had appointed him as his replacement instead of Wilson's catspaw, Seymour. The battles between the Wilson wing of the party and the conservative wing are still being played out today.

I support Tom and will continue to defend him against the lies spewed out by Arnold supporters. However, I view this Tom vs. Arnold battle on here to have played itself out. It is time to focus on getting rid of Grayout. I know some Arnold people would rather keep Grayout than have Tom. You're not one of them?

Apart from being a "RINO", John Seymour had to be the most unimaginative senate pick imaginable. Seymour's only prior statewide experience was being defeated in the Lt. Governor primary!

LOL! I have from day one said the objective was to remove Davis with whoever was the most viable candidate.

Even those who know McClintock well, such as Ray Haynes, Brulte and others, as well as conservatives like Bill Simon, Bill Jones and the Orange County Lions Club ALL endorsed Arnold, and have been urging McC to withdraw.

You are trying to marginalize those who want a Republican win, instead of handing over the governorship to Bustamante -- which is about 90% of the Republicans.

Sorry -- the stubborn McC voters are the ones who are marginalizing themselves. If they didn't exist, the Democrats would have to invent them.

Doesn't it strike you as odd, that the Republican leadership are lining up behind Arnold, while the Dem leadership, including chairman Art Torres are singing the praises of McClintock?

Obviously, he doesn't bend to pressure or the fads pushed or followed by the party hacks or fair-weather conservatives who fall for the first liberal film star who looks their way.

Mmm, he has an enticing concept, I don't know about him but would like to learn more about his political beliefs which brought him to making his statement regarding the recall election.

Anything said against a conservative who stands for principle is, by definition, not a personal attack -- no matter how insulting it is.

Not only are they entirely reliant on personal insults and ad hominem attacks -- at both Tom and the good California conservatives who support him -- but they cry foul from the rooftops the moment they get back a fraction of what they give.

After years of being liberal Democrats (not all of them, but many), I guess old habits die hard.

And what caused Bush I's "lousy showing"? THE PEROT VOTERS. And you are DOING IT AGAIN.

That appointment was so bad, the only conclusion one can draw from it is that Wilson did it purposefully because he didn't want to have a serious rival in the California Republican Party. Wilson appointed Seymour because he knew he would lose.

Removing Davis is one question. His replacement his another. Too many RINOs have tried to blend the two together. That's why they threatened to go against the recall if it appeared Tom might win (remember Issa's recent threat to campaign against the recall if Tom didn't drop out? I do.)

That appointment was so bad, the only conclusion one can draw from it is that Wilson did it purposefully because he didn't want to have a serious rival in the California Republican Party. Wilson appointed Seymour because he knew he would lose.

I'd have to say you're right there. There were certainly plenty of better qualified "RINOs" that Wilson could have picked who would have actually had a chance to hold on to the seat.

He broke faith with the conservative base that put him in office in the first place. Don' blame that dingbat Perot. He merely took what Bush the Elder gave him.

Arnold isn't even attempting to cultivate the support of the conservative base. In future elections he will have to run essentially as democrat and hope his liberalism is marginally more palatable to more democrats than the liberalism of the genuine article.

The quality of Davis' replacement DOES have a bearing on the prospects of the recall, and without an Arnie to energize the electorate, this thing would be a lock for Davis.No Arnie, no Davis removal, and Davis' actions the past two days show he knows it, too.He misunderestimated Arnie, like so many :)

Great Ad! I heard it on-air yesterday on my way to have my 70% American car serviced.

I especially like the bit about the "major funding" being supplied by the something or other "Band of Indians."

Kinda like, no exactly like, an Anti-7th Calvary Ad...

On the "referendum." It may not be the best way to go on this. The Governor can do a great deal, immediately, by just "not enforcing" the law. For example, did you know that if you move to our fair State from other, more reasonable climes, you are REQUIRED to register any handguns you own?

The reason you may not know about this law is that the point of "contact" for the registration was to be the CA DMV, and the folks at that agency basically said "forget it."

A little birdy tells me that a similar sentiment is brewing over there...Spare me the joke about the DMV'ers being upset that their source of illegal "Pin Money" is being cut-off.

YOU GOT IT. GREAT. Let's hold Arnold and his buds accountable. Why is it that Arnold opposes drivers licenses for illegal aliens -- BUT THEN OPPOSES THE REFERENDUM TO OVERTURN THE MEASURE?
