Iran woman awaits execution

An Iranian woman is about to be executed for killing a police chief who allegedly tried to rape her, Amnesty International said yesterday. Afsaneh Nouroozi, 32, was reportedly arrested six years ago after killing the head of police intelligence in Kish, southern Iran.

At her trial she said that she had acted in self-defence. Her lawyer cited an article of Iran's Islamic criminal law that allows citizens to take "proportionate" action to defend "life, honour, chastity, property or freedom" when it is impractical to summon help from the authorities.

Nouroozi was nevertheless sentenced to death, and the sentence is reported to have been upheld by the supreme court last month. The only person able to grant clemency at this stage is the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Amnesty believes the execution is imminent.

The case has aroused controversy because of implications for women's rights.

The 83 people reportedly executed in Iran so far this year have been male. At least five women were executed last year, four for killing their husbands.

I suspect the 4 husbands "needed killing".

These are men that when their little wifie get too old, and they can't afford to take on two wives, just set the first one on fire or accuse her of adultery so she is stoned.
They are barbarians.

I remember this. I thought she had already been killed off by the mad mullahs. They sentenced her to death because she fought too hard to keep from being raped. They said she should have found a non-lethal means of incapacitating him while fending him off. If he had successfully raped her, she would have faced punishment, probably even death for not having fought hard enough. Of course, he would have been alive to testify against her, and she needs a witness to the rape because all women are liars according to Muslim tradition. In which case she would STILL be ruled a liar and punished unless a male witness to the crime testified in her defense.

Welcome to the world of Sharia law, where the wimmen claim they are "liberated", mainly because not to say so means punishment.

Personally, I think the little males are frightened that a woman could possibly kill one of them in self defense.

Notice that The Guardian raises the alarm when these things happen, but if anyone tried to do anything about it--i.e., if Bush and Blair went in, deposed the Mullahs, and closed down their nuclear program--they would scream their heads off in opposition.

Liberals are pretty good at noticing these atrocities and very bad about doing anything about them.

I personally think it was pretty darned wasted on wine laced with opium most of the time. Muhammad did drink alcohol, and his ramblings, plus past and present Muslim culture suggest he spent most of his time in an opium-induced dream haze.

that would certainly explain a lot!

i'm sure that those husbands were "asking for it" by what they were wearing, drinking, how they spoke, body language, past behaviors.......

how true that libs love to bring attention to the plights of others then as soon as anybody besides them does something about it they cry foul.

In at least one of those cases, the wife was sick of being beaten - allowed and encouraged under Sharia, to control women like animals because Muslim wisdom states that women cannot control themselves - and killed her husband. She was sentenced to death because she could have gottena divorce....but again, she would need two female or one male witness to the beating, because women are dishonest, men are honest, and if her husband had claimed innocence, his word would be taken over the she-animal's.

It is good to see Amnesty International supporting an individual's right to carry a concealed weapon and use it with deadly force for self-protection. If more bad guys knew they might get blown away in attacking another person, we'd have a lots less crime. If enough bad guys get what this Chief got, the crime rate would drop, if for no other reason than there would not be as many repeat offenders. Good for you, AI!
