Arnold's a pig, Huffington huffs
New York Daily News ^ | 9/26/03 | HELEN KENNEDY
Posted on 09/26/2003 1:33 AM PDT by kattracks
WASHINGTON - Arnold Schwarzenegger and Arianna Huffington continued squabbling a day after they turned the latest California gubernatorial debate into a chaotic snipefest. Keying off his debate crack that "I have a perfect part for you in 'Terminator 4,'" the columnist called on California's women to vote against him.
She said she took his comeback Wednesday night as a reference to the actor's oft-repeated comment that he enjoyed stuffing a woman's head into a toilet bowl in "Terminator 3."
"That was such a clear and unambiguous indication of what he really thinks of women," she said. "I have never, in hundreds of debates I've participated in, been treated the way Arnold Schwarzenegger treated me."
Schwarzenegger said Huffington was nuts.
"I don't know why she picked that scene - I have no idea," he said at a town hall meeting broadcast on Fox News Channel. "The fact of the matter is, it was a compliment. In 'Terminator,' we always had powerful women. If she takes it the wrong way, it's not my fault." ....

PRE-ELECTION RUSH TO BUY WORRIES SOME, PLEASES OTHERS

Recall High Anxiety
FrontPageMagazine.com ^ | 9/26/03 | Tammy Bruce
Posted on 09/26/2003 2:42 AM PDT by kattracks
Earlier this week a disturbing tune had begun to infiltrate my conversations with friends. Both Republicans and Democrats (yes, I have pals who hail from both camps), began to express something which I can only describe as Recall Fatigue. Even though were being bombarded with messages by people who do not have our best interests in mind, its too important a time to tire.
Many of my Democrat friends, most of whom had signed the recall petition and were looking forward to voting Yes on the ballot, began to respond to the cries that poured out of the Democratic Party that the sky was falling and democracy would be destroyed if we, uh, used it....

Caution: Watch for Dropping Shoe (LA Times to smear Arnold?)
Slate/MSN.com ^ | 9-24-03 | Mickey Kaus
Posted on 09/26/2003 6:00 AM PDT by veronica
Undropped Shoe Reminder: The L.A. Times has not yet published the results of its big investigation of Arnold Schwarzenegger's personal behavior (unless this mostly favorable piece is all we're going to get). Is the Times saving it for the last minute, the better to really damage the actor's chances (think Bush and DUI)? Is the story going through an arduous bureaucratic editing process filled with contentious sourcing debates? Or is that Times uncomfortable with the whole idea--so that the fruits of its reporting will never see the light of day? ... We won't know for a week or so.
Until then, just in case Schwarzenegger appears to be pulling ahead, it's worth remembering that it aint' over until the ladies sing, or don't sing, or we find out that there was nothing to sing about. ...[What do you expect?-ed. A non-fatal story. I've said it before: The happiest day in a politician's life is when he learns he's being investigated by the L.A. Times.] ...

Bustamante asked to show ad contracts
The Mercury News ^ | September 25, 2003 | Barry Witt
Posted on 09/26/2003 6:50 AM PDT by CheneyChick
A judge Wednesday asked Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante to prove that his campaign is contractually obligated to continue paying for television ads bought with campaign donations that the judge earlier this week ruled illegal.
Bustamante is not disputing Judge Loren E. McMaster's finding that the $3.8 million from five public-employee unions and three casino-owning Indian tribes violates California's campaign-contribution laws, but he says the campaign can't get the money back from television stations. The campaign contends that $2.2 million worth of commercials already had run by the time McMaster issued his ruling Monday and that an additional $2 million was sent to stations late last week for this week's commercials -- money the campaign can't get back....

Illegal Flip. Davis gets desperate. (But nowhere near serious.)
NRO ^ | September 26, 2003, 9:22 a.m. | Deroy Murdock
Posted on 09/26/2003 8:04 AM PDT by .cnI redruM
Now that federal appellate judges have reinstated the October7 California recall election, Golden State voters should run Governor Gray Davis out of Sacramento for one of the most reckless acts of blind ambition in recent memory.
Davis struggles to surmount polls that show him as unpopular as Death Valley's sunshine is unrelenting. Hoping to electrify predominantly Democratic Hispanics, Davis traveled to East L.A. on September 5 to sign legislation that extends driver's licenses to illegal aliens, many of them Latin Americans....
