Well, you can pretty much bet that any service member with an Islamic name or of Arab heritage is being looked at very closely now! Good. This needed to happen two years ago.

Man, that must suck.
Going from working for Gitmo, to being a customer at Gitmo.
Say, put the guy to sleep - and hire hollywood to stage a set with 72 virgins, and call it Paradise. He'll think he's dead and gone to Heaven - and spill his guts.
afterwards, you cut his nards off.

Make that 'a Syrian citizen who moved to Detroit w/ his parents 9 years ago, and lied to the USAF about having become a US citizen".

Al-Halabi, 24, was arrested in Florida on July 23 while returning to his home in California and charged with 30 counts of espionage and failing to report improper contact with the Syrian Embassy. He says he's innocent. He was arrested back in July and we're just finding out now?
I'm guessing there is more to theinvestigation and others have been watched for some time now

And we still have Democrats complaining about how "poorly" we treat the Gitmo prisoners.
May these guys never see the light of day again.

They may have set a trap for him by sending him to Gitmo and then watching him closely.....Dream assignment for an Al Queda guy.

These few arrests may be just the tip of the iceberg. Al-Qaeda and other groups bent on the US destruction have had a decade to infiltrate into many aspects of our government and society.
Remember on 9-11, when reports that someone outside the government had that day's code for Air Force One? And that was sort of quieted, but never really denied.
Remember in the '90's that our President was too busy watching golf to take any action against terrorists.
Some serious and severe cleansing needs to be taking place (if it hasn't already) in every "essential" branch of government. You see one or two cockroaches--that means there are a thousand more in hiding.

I wonder what sorts of "interesting" documents they were feeding this guy in hopes he'd sent them back to Al Qaeda?
al Halabi: "I overheard a rumor that the invasion of Iraq would unfold very slowly, taking many weeks until the infidels would be ready to push toward Baghdad."

"The case is going more in the direction of radical Islamic groups instead of the Syrian government. At this point we don't think there is a Syrian intelligence connection," said a military official. Al-Halabi, 24, was arrested in Florida on July 23 while returning to his home in California and charged with 30 counts of espionage and failing to report improper contact with the Syrian Embassy. He says he's innocent.
Let's see....they don't think that the Syrian government is involved, only radical muslim groups. But then he is charged with improper contact with the Syrian gogernment.

On his computer's hard drive, the agent said, investigators found 186 classified Defense Department documents related to the Guantanamo detainees. Media reports from yesterday were sniffing specifically about the charges being buying baclava desserts for the poor deprived detainees. I guess the specific details are slowly getting out and the charges are serious.
P.S. Don't look for any Media follow-up corrections as they desperately get on to other, unrelated stories.

I wonder if this means the Abu Nour Institute and that Grand Mufti of Syria are working with Al Qaeda. If they are, I don't imagine the Syrian government will be too happy with them.

Just remember what party it was that said we should not racial profile, while the enemies were in the midst of our military.
Just remember what administration it was that killed, eliminated or pursued not one terrorist act on their watch yet had the audacity pardon FALN terrorists...
Just remember what administration espoused the "US hegemony is coming to an end" train of thought...
please add your recollections as well...
Just remember....never forget....

One thing this guy's lawyer said is really bugging me. I haven't seen it in any of the articles so far, but caught it while listening to a Detroit area news show last night.
The lawyer said this: That his client is not only not guilty, but--exact words here--"he's an American patriot".
What the heck is this kind of talk?

There was a time we used to execute illegal combatants and 'mole' spy's. Now we try them in civilian courts, risking our national security.
Gotta love the left and PC.

This is really beautiful. By leaving an e-mail trail this one lowly airman has probably exposed tens or hundreds of bad guys. This was no accident.

This is far worse than I expected.
The Russians had to work harder and pay much more to get their spies into our networks.
It seems that al Qaeda has great recruiting techniques for being a bunch a disorganized fanatics, or are they being financed by our rich "friends" in the Middle East?
