The advocacy of gay activists who want the same recognition and status as heterosexual couples has fueled a national debate that is leading Republicans to consider opposing homosexual marriage in their national platform. "There is a lot of energy out there, a lot of concern about gay marriage," Ed Gillespie, chairman of the Republican National Committee, said. "So it wouldn't surprise me if it were addressed in some form or fashion in the platform."

While I agree with pretty much the whole article, it seems that gays only constitute about 2% of the population giving them a high ignorability factor. So, I'm not certain that the Republican Party really needs to expend too much political capital actively opposing gay marriage, especially when much the same can be accomplished by making it clear to all that the Republican Party's platform includes strong support of normal marriages, especially for families with dependent children, who seldom are part of gay households.

Actual homosexuals may only constitute 2% of the population, but the people pushing the homosexual agenda number far higher. In fact, the advancement of homosexuality has become a de facto element of the Democratic Party platform.
