Target store chain void of common decency (ACTION ALERT)
AFA.net ^ | 9/25/03 | Don Wildmon

Would you believe Target has approved its Marshall Field's stores to sell a product called FCUK? Target must consider parents really naive to not know exactly what type of message they are "targeting" to our kids.

Here's how one mother put it:

I didn't see this on television but it was an advertisement insert in last Sunday's newspaper for Marshall Field's dept. store for a cologne and a clothing line aimed at teenagers called "Fcuk" and their advertising slogan to go with it is "scent to bed". I was really appalled at this and then a friend of mine saw huge posters promoting this IN the Marshall Field's store in my area. When she complained to a clerk about it she was referred to a manager who told her the corporate office makes all the decisions about what they advertise. Another mother put it this way:

Not only does the name make an obvious grab at the mind to be misspelled as one of the vilest slang words ever used, it also goes further to make its point. A young, attractive, half dressed couple are snuggling on a bed with the words "scent to bed" superimposed over their picture. On the inside where you can pull the flyer apart to see what the product smells like you read "open here to try fcuk her" and "open here to try fcuk him". On the back page is an offer to "get your scent to bed t-shirt". For a major retailer to promote and sell this type of product is reprehensible to me. I hope it is to you too! I think we need to pull out all the stops to let Target know they have crossed the line with our families.

ACTION NEEDED Will you join me by making an extra effort in contacting the Target corporation by taking action? We already know the Target will block emails sent through the AFA Action Alert system, so your extra effort is greatly appreciated!

Call Target's toll-free number and let them know how disgusted you are with their decision to sell FCUK products through their Marshall Field's stores. Their toll free number is 1-800-440-0680, extension 1.

Here's a note: You will be told that you are calling Target, not Marshall Field's. Don't be fooled by their attempt to discourage you. Target is responsible for Marshall Field's decision to sell their nasty product!

In addition, they may ask for your mailing address. We recommend not giving that information. By doing so, your home might become a target for receiving a promotional mail out for the product.

I am reading thru all these post, you are right as usual most people do not see the harm this does to our children. When my oldest son was born; summer of 2000, I was driving around and I saw a flyer for the V*gina Monologue, I thought thank god my son is not old enought to read that and say "Gee Mom, what is a v*gina and what does monolugue mean? I already turn around Magazine covers when I see someting offensive. I will tell my son all the biological terms for all the body parts and explain their functions with detail, if necessary. But, to have this kind of thing shoved down our throat on a Sunday after Church or any other time, it is out of control. I applaud you for making a stand, that is what we all have to do if we want to be active in our world and stand up for the children.

Oh, I saw, and was... nonplussed.
I don't see anything wrong with parents teaching a kid (and I mean the PARENTS of the specific kid) the real deal about human sexuality at an early age. Nor do I have any objections to seventeen year olds seeing such an ad as I described.

On the other hand, I object strenuously to the way pop culture is bombarding today's youth from all sides and sources with sex and lewd suggestions. Since I know damned well that kids of all ages look through "Seventeen" magazine, I object to the pornographic content and subtext of that and all other similar ads.

It is simply wrong.

Sometimes it seems the whole world is dead-set against parents trying to raise their children as self-disciplined, restrained, (dare I say?) moral human beings.
I have no children, and I feel very sorry for all caring parents who do - the task they have undertaken is difficult enough without the whole damned world fighting them every step of the way.

Soupy Sales story (urban legend?) has his him arguing with White Fang - He's holding up a card with the letter "K" on it, and Fang keeps saying it's an "F".

Soupy sez: You must need glasses, I see "F", you see "K"

Personally, if it was a real problem, I would get up and leave the restaurant. If my kid asked about the word, I'd tell them it was a dirty word and explain why. Arm them with intelligence rather than teaching them that it was appropriate to get in a fight over a hat. But that's just me, I have never been in a fight in my life and neither has my hubby. I've never had any reason to fight anyone, and the hubby is such a large man he's afraid he would seriously injure someone if he hit them.

No offense to anyone, but this kind of overreaction is pretty silly, IMO! Gee whiz! The same bunch of complainers and boycotters about this probably allow their kids to watch 'Friends' and other trash on TV, never monitor what they're doing on the internet, and never say a word when they go to school in too-tight pants or tops.

Remember, I said no offense...just my opinion. I just get weary of the continual hypocrisy in this country.

"Interesting as Target is owned by Mormons"

Are Target's owners members of the Mormon Church, or does the Mormon Church own the majority of Target stock?

I enjoy reading the Washington Times because it's a conservative online paper; it's owned by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon and the Unification Church.

fcuk is not an obscenity... your daughter, can read it outloud and still not get in trouble... perhaps walking passed a beaver building something, she might say outloud, "dam. that beaver is building one, big dam."

profanity is in this instance, in the eye of the beholder... you missed being able to teach your daughter that dad was a rational man who could see the difference between profanity and irony...

I'm glad you agree, I'm amazed so many freepers don't care. When I've seen giant "VAGINA MONOLOGUES!" billboards, I cringe to think of our children's childhoods and innocence being stolen from them.

Please read 112 and 121, and tell me what your approach is to similar situations, where this is shoved into your children's faces in public, in "family" places and times like Sunday at IHOP.
