Target store chain void of common decency (ACTION ALERT)
AFA.net ^ | 9/25/03 | Don Wildmon

Would you believe Target has approved its Marshall Field's stores to sell a product called FCUK? Target must consider parents really naive to not know exactly what type of message they are "targeting" to our kids.

Here's how one mother put it:

I didn't see this on television but it was an advertisement insert in last Sunday's newspaper for Marshall Field's dept. store for a cologne and a clothing line aimed at teenagers called "Fcuk" and their advertising slogan to go with it is "scent to bed". I was really appalled at this and then a friend of mine saw huge posters promoting this IN the Marshall Field's store in my area. When she complained to a clerk about it she was referred to a manager who told her the corporate office makes all the decisions about what they advertise. Another mother put it this way:

Not only does the name make an obvious grab at the mind to be misspelled as one of the vilest slang words ever used, it also goes further to make its point. A young, attractive, half dressed couple are snuggling on a bed with the words "scent to bed" superimposed over their picture. On the inside where you can pull the flyer apart to see what the product smells like you read "open here to try fcuk her" and "open here to try fcuk him". On the back page is an offer to "get your scent to bed t-shirt". For a major retailer to promote and sell this type of product is reprehensible to me. I hope it is to you too! I think we need to pull out all the stops to let Target know they have crossed the line with our families.

ACTION NEEDED Will you join me by making an extra effort in contacting the Target corporation by taking action? We already know the Target will block emails sent through the AFA Action Alert system, so your extra effort is greatly appreciated!

Call Target's toll-free number and let them know how disgusted you are with their decision to sell FCUK products through their Marshall Field's stores. Their toll free number is 1-800-440-0680, extension 1.

Here's a note: You will be told that you are calling Target, not Marshall Field's. Don't be fooled by their attempt to discourage you. Target is responsible for Marshall Field's decision to sell their nasty product!

In addition, they may ask for your mailing address. We recommend not giving that information. By doing so, your home might become a target for receiving a promotional mail out for the product.

I'm saddened that Target is doing this, however, Tar-zhay is my discount store of choice, and every time I go in there, I drop a hundred bucks.

But hey, now that the American Family Assoc. is making such a big stink, every kid around is gonna want to buy this stuff - what could be cooler?

I think you hit the nail right on the head. I sometimes wonder if they're not secretly in cahoots with the people they're protesting.

Words cannot hurt you. Puritanical holy-rollerism is far more harmful. Oh, wait.. it's for the childrun who can be oh-so-easily corrupted by one of the vilest slang words ever used. Maybe yours can, but not mine.

Oops, you're using common sense. That'll get you in trouble around here.

I personally thought it was pretty funny when they opened the fcuk store in San Francisco. Tons of angry libs thought that a conservative had unveiled the sign towntown that read:

(small print) Coming soon...

(huge letters) FCUK SAN FRANCISCO.

Heh heh.

Stores do have the right to sell what they want and we don't have to buy stuff, but teens and younger kids don't have the savvy adults usually do
They do, however, have parents.

I almost got into a brawl at IHOP after church last Sunday. I'm in a booth with my wife, 7 year old daughter and 11 year old son, and ten feet away, facing my daughter, is a 25 year old loudmouth with a ball cap on that said

FCUK

in 3" tall Germanic letters.

I drilled him with "killer eyes" for ten minutes, he was oblivious. Long story, lots of twists, but in the end I loudly called him a degenerate jerk in front of half of the IHOP and he took it off, and I narrowly avoided going to jail for assault.

My own skirmish in the culture war.

HAH! Some are fortunate to have parents who monitor them but there are SO many out there whose parents are out to lunch. The boys who killed all those kids at Columbine had parents, too, parents without a clue. No, there are far too many kids who don't have good parenting.

"Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe."

Actually, I did have a little trouble reading it - took a bit of effort to figure out what was being said.

"Words cannot hurt you. Puritanical holy-rollerism is far more harmful."

Then I wonder why people are tossed off FR for using abusive language?

If you don't want to participate in a boycott of Target, don't. But I always say, better to roll in the holy than in the filth.

Um, you DO realize there is a difference between like minded people banding together to try to accomplish something verses the government making a law, right? Sure didn't sound like it from your comments.

So "the village" should step in?

The problem is that statists like Wildmon and Hillary use "the children" as an excuse to try to control the behavior of adults

As an example, AFA Arkansas promotes prohibition among the counties of that state. . Since alcohol sales to minors are already forbidden, clearly they have no problem infringing on the perogatives of adults.

When their objective is to restrain free speech or free trade, I do. In the case of the former it is called the "heckler's veto" and any society with meaningful free speech has steps that can be taken against it.

Eventually statists like Wildmon get around to trying to make a law. Can't have the strong willed or just plain obstinate flouting "the will of the people", you know.
