It is time...ASK McClintock to DROP OUT of the race
McClintock website ^

McClintock is a great guy! I agree with him and if I could wave my magic wand, I would make him the Gov. of California...no questions asked.
Now, back to reality.
McClintock is running BEHIND Arnold and should DROP OUT for the good of the Republican party and for California...who cannot take any more liberal Governors!
Yes, he could stay in .... and after the election his supporters can say WE SURE SHOWED ARNOLD... as we watch Bustamonte sworn in to office.
Headline: STUPID PARTY STRIKES AGAIN
When Republicans unite, Republicans WIN. When Republicans are divided, democRATS win.
We can win this one....

I think the chances have increased that the recall will fail and Gray Davis will stay in office. If McClintock stays in the race, that means more votes for recalling Davis.I disagree on both points:
I know some commentators (liberals) have suggested none of the candidates last night looked sufficiently gubenatorial to justify tossy Davis out, but I think that is a misreading of the level of anger in California. Furthermore, Bustamonte, who is identified with the current cabal in Sacramento, made a stunning admission when he said, simply, we spent too much. It was stunning because it made him look foolish, but I think it will also reverberate with people to vote for the recall. I can see an ad for Arnold with the sound bite: "When asked how California got into the mess it's in today, the best Gray Davis' Lt. Gov could say was [insert video] "we spent too much." Can you trust such people to continue to run California? Vote for the Terminator and terminate these parasites !"
Secondly, while those who would vote for Tom would vote to recall Davis, how many of them would really stay home? I can't imagine any California Republican or conservative who doesn't think that Davis needs to be yanked for his performance. Would they really cut their noses to spite their faces by sitting out the recall? I don't think so, but, if they do, then they truly deserve every bad thing that happens in California.

The commanding frontrunner in a race does not bow out in favor of a guy who has less than 40% of his total. Arnie is stretching ut his lead over Bustamonte now. Tom made a gamble on behalf of "true conservatives", and lost. Bigtime.
The secret is out now, thanks to Tom McClintock - the GOP can win without excessive pandering to hyperrigidity. So in the future, when GOP candidates are less receptive to hard line organizations dictating policy, y'all got Tom McClintock to thank.

Answer his question, who would you vote for CB or AS? Simple question, easy answer, so?

In a way abortion is an issue. I know that the Gov. of CA cannot change any abortion laws, however, just having a person in office that thinks it is okay to kill babies doesn't say much about his/her character and not one I'd want making weighty decisons in other matters.

Betcha you could come up with a MUCH longer list of people who were supposed to lose... and DID...
( but it might be harder to find their names, buried in the dust of history )

It was the dumbest thing I ever heard a politician do, and I figured that Arnold had it sewn up right at that point.

Maybe it's time to think this through and urge Schwartenkennedy to drop out....Remember when conservatives were told electing Christie Todd Whitman would be better than relecting Jim Florio in New Jersey?
It's the these social liberal Republicans that end up selling out on all issues eventually. Can you say Warren Buffett?
Christie, We Hardly Knew You
by Eric V. Schlecht, National Taxpayers Union
July 23, 1998
NEW JERSEY, meet the new Christie Todd Whitman. With over $550 million in new tax increase proposals since her re-election, many no longer recognize their governor.
When first elected in 1993, Christie Todd Whitman seemed like a welcome change to the tax-and-spend policies of Governor Jim Florio. Whitman had run on a platform of substantial relief for New Jersey's taxpayers. To the surprise of her skeptics, she kept her promise and reduced state income taxes by 30 percenta $1.2 billion tax cut.
However, since being narrowly re-elected on an anti-tax platform last year, it's been a completely different story. While dozens of states across the nation are cutting tax rates and Congress is debating how much to cut taxes instead of whether to cut them, Whitman has adopted a policy of tax and spend. Voters across the country have repeatedly rejected higher taxes yet, in the last six months alone, Governor Whitman has proposed nearly $550 million in tax hikes. It appears after sampling taxes, Ms. Whitman has found them to her taste.

""One last time: Arnold Schwartzenegger is a Democrat!"
As much as I want to like him I still wonder if he's in the race for the sole reason to take votes away from McClintock and thereby help Davis. He married into the Kennedy clan for a reason that can't be good for Republicans, IMHO"
I enjoy Ahnuld's movies, but that's where it stops. He's pro-abortion, pro gun control, wants to spend a bunch of money CA doesn't have, and ends up supporting illegal immigration (he said he wants to give them work visas). He is a D E M O C R A T!
McClintock can't win. That's clear. He just doesn't have the votes. I can't vote for Ahnuld in good conscience. So, here's what I'm going to do:
I'm going to vote NO on the recall issue, and vote for McClintock. I'd rather have Davis run the state into the ground as a Democrat than have Ahnuld do it as a Republican. Let the Dems take the blame.

"I've said this before, but I think it's really worth considering what would happen if either McClintock or Schwarzeneggar dropped out. You'd immediately get the Davis smear machine going full throttle against the remaining Republican, and the recall would likely fail. My guess is that Republican chances are best with both McClintock and Schwarzeneggar in the race."
That sir is a proposition worth debating. If it is just Busty vs Arnold the kool aid conservatives stay home and there goes 7% for the recall. But, I don't think Tom can win though he can be a drag on Arnold. So, the perfect situation may be a vote percentage like 34% Busty, 40% Arnold, 20 %Tom, 6 % et. al.

Let's just cause division amoung freepers. I think it's valid for those not in CA to offer opinions/comment. People actually might gain some insight or wisdom. Ideas even!
Discussions happen all of the time on threads where events happen outside of our own states. We still comment. We still offer opinions. There is not a thing wrong with it.

"I wouldn't wish Bustamante on a dog pound, let along your state."
I hear that. It's hard to imagine anyone but fools voting for Boost-yer-taxes but maybe I'm prejudiced.
I like McClintock, and if I thought he could win this race, I'd vote for him in a minute. But if he stays in, Baboonamante will win and everyone will lose! How will that help the Republican party??
To: 68 grunt
I would vote for McClintock. Do you not get a choice in California?

Arnold will not get most of these voters even if he drops out, they are the type that will stay home. Republicans never learn.
To: Gopher Broke
So click on the McClintock website link above and tell Tom to DROP OUT of the race....so we can have a Republican Governor!
Why would I want McClintock to drop out, when I'm going to vote for him? I can't recall ever having a chance to vote for a better candidate.
