"Amber's father vehemently denied on national TV that Amber ever spoke to Laci."
You're right, I remember that he said that--though I didn't see him on TV. (I read about it here!)
Well, though, old Ron Frey was clearly basking in the attention, and IMO, he talks out his *** at times. Furthermore, it's possible that Scott actually answered that call. I mean, he could've been with Laci when the call came. Imagine him grinning, etc. My brother has more than one female friend, and you should see the one girlfriend when the other one calls him. She knows instantly that something funny is going on, even though she can't hear who it is on the other end. Laci may have said, "who's that?" and have demanded an explanation.

This is not necessarily gospel, for I've already had one senior moment today, but the wording of Ron Frey's denial was a little suspect. Seems to me that he was denying specifically that Amber had ever spoken to Laci directly on the phone. IIRC, it did not rule out the possibility that she might have phoned the residence. Maybe Scott answered, or possibly no one was at home, and she could have left a message.

".....it's possible that Scott actually answered that call. I mean, he could've been with Laci when the call came. Imagine him grinning, etc."When my husband answers the phone I can almost always tell who he is talking to by his mannerism and the different tone his voice has depending on who he is talking to.
If Scott did get the call from Amber I can just imagine his tone and mannerism was so different that Laci would have had lots of suspicion.
I am still of the feeling though that Amber and Laci talked but I guess we will never know.
