Kelsey Grammer Eyeing Senate Run
Newsmax ^ | Tuesday Sept. 23, 2003

Top-rated TV star Kelsey Grammer announced Monday night that he would like to quit show business and enter politics - perhaps as Senator from California.

"I've always thought that since I did not serve in the military and since I was raised by a military man, my grandfather, that we all have an obligation to try to perform some service to the country," the "Frasier" star told Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes."

"And the only thing I can think of is to attempt maybe a political office at some point in my life," Grammer added.

When it came to concrete plans, the sitcom star sounded vague, but suggested he'd like to serve as "senator of whatever state I was living in." Grammer now resides in California.

The NBC star said he'd likely run as a Republican, though he's not a conservative. "I consider myself a centrist, I suppose, but I basically believe in trying to preserve as much opportunity for the individual, as long as that individual chooses to work as hard as he can."

Grammer said he has long secretly harbored political ambitions, telling "Hannity & Colmes," "I used to say that I wanted to be president when I was a boy."

As far as his long-running hit TV series "Frasier," Grammer said that this year would be its last.

On Tuesday, Hannity announced that Grammer would reprise his TV role as a talk radio host by filling in on the Fox talker's nationally syndicated radio show sometime next week.

"..we need MORE NON LAWYERS running for office -- Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, Conservatives or Don't Knows..."

I agree wholeheartedly, and I love lawyers. This nation was never supposed to be governed by lawyers and ruled by judges. I'm sure the founding fathers (and mothers!) would be sore tempted to smack us upside our stupid heads for the current mess created by our penchant for electing lawyers to office, which has led directly to rule by litigation and regulation and not by LAW.

The most heinous criminal in the dock has the RIGHT to be JUDGED by his PEERS, why do we leave the rule of the law-abiding citizen to a less qualified group?

I'm currently going against the crash and burn strategy but if I was leaving maybe I'd be for it.

That's reasonable. If I had to stay, I'd probably be right where you are. I just reached a breaking point a while back and began working towards getting out.

I also know that many states would gladly accept the CA businesses even if it meant accepting Californians.

The more the merrier. I'm moving to Oregon, and believe me, with the highest unemployment rate in the country, we're going to need all the disgruntled Californians we can get up there.

Well, Kelsey had better learn how to grammatically spell his own last name before the cat considers voting for him!

Kelsey may not be conservative, but he stood up for Bush on David Letterman a couple months ago.

For that he gets my props.

Since he doesn't say anything unconservative here, one can only guess what centrist beliefs Grammer holds.

Do we really need more Trojan Horses?

"eliminate 7/8th's of the American population "

... the true and pernicious goal of the moralistic elites.
kick the "elitist" holier than cows out of the republican party. A lot of the left the democrat party, over Reagans commitment to limiting abortion... now they are unfit for the republicans OR democrats... perhaps they could all start a party called the "theocrats." And write books about how "persecuted" they are for their convictions.... to make big money.

Maybe we can encourage them all join celibate monastic orders of some kind and stop reproducing too... the shakers went extinct because of their NO SEX "holier than even GOD has imagined" religious cult...

Religious and moralistic extremism is what begat the pograms and inquisitions of Europe... and the talibunnies of the middle east.

You know, it's really starting to bug me all the Freepers who are so holier than thou, and think that no one can have had a moral lapse at any point in their life, and therefore are not worthy of being Pubs.

My opinion, take it as it is. The reason why so many of us are upset (I'll include myself) is that you have people who have been working hard for many years, down in the trenches, doing the tough political work, and they reach a point where they have enough name recognition, that it begins to pay off, and then somebody from Hollywood comes along, and tries to knock them off their feet and throw all their hard work away.

Those celebrity types pop in without having to get their hands dirty in the political muck, and instantly expect to be front-runners and/or win. Basically they ride the backs of others.

Let me join you in interrupting this crap-on-Kelsey fest. The guy lost his show producer to 9/11, and to my knowledge has come out very patriotic and pro-Bush since. I'm not endorsing him for any office, but jeez, do we have to shred him? It's nice to have some non-lunatic lefties in Hollywierd.

If people do not immediately jump and ask certain conservatives "How high?" on the way up, then they are deemed as RINOs.

I fail to see how Kelsey grammer could be any worse than Barbara Boxer or Dianne Feinstein. There are some people who see any ideological impurity as an excuse to attack.

I suggest a campaign bumper sticker for Grammer:

When I see or hear the word "centrist" in the media, I think center of the left. He may well be at the center of the political spectrum, but that word has been seriously corrupted by the media, and he should have chosen another.

We'll see when & if he runs. What he says with regard to specific issues, and perhaps more important, who supports him.
