FROM ED ASNER, BEN COHEN, JAMES CROMWELL, ANI DIFRANCO, BARBARA EHRENREICH, ELLIOTT GOULD AND MIMI KENNEDY

Dear Friend,

We write you as artists and activists who believe the Democratic Party is at a turning point. Jim Hightower says it best -- when asked what he thinks of 3rd parties, he says: "I'd settle for a second party." So would we.

We want a Democratic Party that offers a real alternative to the Bush Administration agenda of corporatism and war.

We want Democrats to stand up against the Bush Administration's war in Iraq, and the continuing occupation which is so costly in lives and resources.

We want a Party that stands up for genuine universal health coverage and for expanded educational opportunities and environmental cleanup paid for by cuts in the bloated Pentagon budget. Our country's military spending now rivals that of all other countries in the world combined. Yet most Democratic presidential candidates have declared the Pentagon off-limits to cuts.

We want a Party that challenges NAFTA, the World Trade Organization and a system of global trade that enriches multinational corporations as it drives down environmental and labor standards around the world. Unfortunately, most Democratic presidential candidates supported NAFTA and/or the WTO.

We want a Party that says no to failed criminal justice policies such as the racially-biased "drug war" that has depleted state budgets while fueling the prison-industrial complex.

If you agree with us on what the Democratic Party should stand for, there is one sure way of telling the world: Support Dennis Kucinich in the Democratic primaries!

Dennis Kucinich is a unique and courageous member of Congress -- the first presidential candidate to oppose Bush's war in Iraq, and one who has never wavered in his opposition.

He's the only presidential candidate who voted against the "USA PATRIOT Act." We know Dennis. We admire him. We endorse him.

If you agree with us on what direction the Party and our nation must take -- even if you aren't endorsing Dennis yet -- please consider sending a donation to help him spread his progressive Democratic message to more and more people.

Contributions are needed now, as the Sept. 30 is the financial filing deadline -- and your donation to the campaign is doubled thanks to federal matching funds. It's quick and easy to donate. Please do so by clicking here:

[deleted]

Join us and Dennis in telling the world that only a Democratic Party with firm principles can inspire and win.

Thank you, Ed Asner, Ben Cohen, James Cromwell, Ani DiFranco, Barbara Ehrenreich, Elliott Gould, Mimi Kennedy

I only know of Asner and Gould. What a pair! I could do a Google on the others, but, with Asner and Gould (LOL) as co-signees, I've seen enough.

From their lips to the leftmost wing of the Rat party's ears! I actually saw a Kook campaign sign in Olympia, WA the other day, it was in a leftwinger neighborhood, surprised I haven't seen a Dean sign there yet.

Kook has the potential to rip the Rats apart, Dean supported the right to bear arms, and Clark is a general, only Kook is "pure" enough for the Naderite wing.

It's going to be super fun to watch!

Word was that the former Mr. Jennifer O'Neill enjoyed drugs immensely-- back in his youth, you know.

LOL-- Elliott Gould-- I can't stop laughing. Hoooooo, brother!

I'll never forget the Simpsons episode that was a flashback to how Homer met Marge in the mid-70s. The best line in the whole show was when Marge saw a magazine with Elliot Gould on the cover and started going, "Oooh, Elliot Gould! He's so DREAMY!" What a smackdown that was. And even that Simpsons episode is a good ten years old.

Anyone who quotes Jim Hightower is an idiot, period!!! Jim Hightower is, unfortunately, a Texan. He's all hat and no cattle---little bitty runt who seems to think that he's an authority on every subject. He had a talk radio show for a while--about a month, I believe, before it was cancelled due to no audience.

KUCINICH TO MEET WITH LGBT COMMUNITY DURING PUBLIC PRESIDENTIAL FORUM

(San Francisco) Ohio Congressman and Democratic Presidential candidate, the
first 2004 Presidential Candidate to sign LGBT activist Robin Tyler's Don't
Amend Petition (dontament.com) against the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA),
will be meeting with members of the LGBT community during a free public
forum and panel discussion from 2:30 - 4:30 pm on September 27, 2003 at the
San Francisco Lesbian / Gay / Bisexual / Transgender (LGBT) Community
Center at 1800 Market Street in San Francisco.

Scheduled panelists include representatives of the No on 54 Campaign and
the Black Coalition on AIDS. In addition to civil rights issues such as
Prop 54 and DOMA, discussion topics will include universal health care,
economic issues and the growing movement to privatize all government
services. During this event, audience members will be invited to question
Congressman Kucinich and to meet him in person after the forum during a
short mixer featuring finger foods and non-alcoholic beverages. Among the
Host Committee are Enrique Asis, VP Political Affairs, Harvey Milk LGBT
Democratic Club; Black Coalition on AIDS; Sally Buchmann, Co-chair,
Northern California, San Francisco Bay Pride At Work; Denise D'Anne,
community activist, San Francisco City and County Commissioner; Pamela (Pam
Pam) Gaddies, community activist; Michael Goldstein, Board Member, Harvey
Milk LGBT Democratic Club; Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club; Esperanza
Macias, community activist; Man2Man Project; Terrance Marks, Man2Man
Project; Tommi Mecca, Queers for Peace and Justice; Randall Miller, Grants
Director, Vanguard Foundation; Andre Robertson, E.D., Black Coalition on
AIDS; Howard Wallace, union / community organizer; Peter Wong, Board
Member, Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club. PLEASE NOTE: This event is
intended to expand dialogue about presidential politics; committee
participation is not an indication of endorsement.

Kucinich for President Campaign LGBT Outreach Coordinator and political
activist, Mari Englehardt, says, "We are lucky to have such a distinguished
and diverse group of Kucinich supporters, endorsers and even non-endorsers
participating in this forum at such an early stage of the Presidential
campaign. With the stakes so high during the coming 2004 election, it is
important that voters be fully informed about their choices. We are
confident that after hearing Congressman Kucinich speak, people will
understand how uncompromisingly he will work for all LGBT communities."

Congressman Kucinich is the only Presidential candidate who voted against
the civil liberties-shredding "Patriot Act," and lead the rally which
resulted in nearly 2/3 of House Democrats voting against granting Bush war
powers in Iraq. Along with his strong stands on peace and social/economic
justice, Kucinich has always demonstrated support for LGBT issues. He was
among a very small number of Congresspersons who voted against the anti-gay
DOMA, which he calls the "Denial of Marriage Act." Unlike most other
Presidential candidates, Kucinich supports federal protections for same-sex
marriage, stating, "Civil unions, domestic partnerships and state-only
benefits for same sex couples fall under the 'separate but equal' mentality
that has been used to justify segregation."
