Copenhagen grinds to halt
The Danish capital has ground to a halt after a power cut struck the city and parts of neighbouring Sweden.
Traffic signals and lights in offices, shops and homes in Copenhagen went out as the city of 1.8 million lost electricity.
Power is also out in southern Sweden, said Stieg Claesson, a spokesman for power company Sydkraft. Nearly 2 million Swedes did not have electricity, including the subway in the capital, Stockholm, which shut down for 30 minutes.
Power officials said a main transmission line connecting Sweden and Denmark had broken down. Police didn't suspect sabotage.
Sture Larsson, technical director of the Swedish National Grid said workers are trying to restore power.
"We are about to reconnect the electricity from the national grid to the local and regional network," he said, adding that customers should expect to have electricity resumed during the afternoon.
Traffic was gridlocked in the city centre and trains running along Denmark's new driverless subway system came to a stop.
The capital's widespread commuter rail system also came to stop and hospitals were running on back-up generators.

"Electric trains suck when the power goes out."
And so does Capital Punishment, visa via the Electric Chair!
There's nothing worse than having "Ol Sparky" lit off and ready to go --- then the power goes off!
That's why here is Texas we use Lethal Injection! We can do that by a flash light.

As I'd said in the other thread linked above, maybe the Danes and the Swedes could use some help from
the Norwegians?

Okay they claim to have the reason for the blackout pinned down.
Apparantly the third reactor at the Oscarshamn (Sweden) nuclear plant fell out of production which caused a 1200MW reduction in power production.
Supposedly heavy storms in southern Sweden caused a problem in another part of the grid which caused the 3:rd and 4:th reactors at Ringhals (also sweden) to disconnect.
A loss of a total of 3000MW (or 20% of the total production here in sweden) caused most of the grid in southern Sweden and Denmark to fail = 4 million people with no electricity.

...Hardest hit is the manufacturing plant that produces the letter "g" where production has ground to a halt. Plant officials indicated that "h" would be substituted in the interim.

Largest blackout in US history in NE.
Blackout in eastern Canada.
Blackout in London, England
Blackout in Sweden, Denmark.
No, no pattern. No connection. Certainly not terrorism.
