A top California Republican endorsed Arnold Schwarzenegger for governor on Tuesday, stepping up pressure on the party's only other major candidate to drop out of the race.
State Senate Republican leader Jim Brulte said he had concluded that his Senate colleague Tom McClintock could not win in a crowded field of replacement candidates hoping to take office should a recall against Governor Gray Davis on October 7 succeed.

That is a major dis, McClintock's own senate boss rejecting him. He is burning a lot of bridges and apparently some important figures are starting to lose patience.

That's gotta be a blow to McClintock... looks like the word's getting out.
With the support of a lot of the high-ranking types (33 of 34 chairmen, numerous Congressmen, etc.) - and some of that Ventura appeal - I think Schwarzeneggar has a 50/50 shot of pulling this off DESPITE the presence of McClintock on the ballot.

I sincerely wish conservatives could go after Davis and Bustamante with the same fervor that they go after each other. It just amazes me.
Look at all the eleventh hour bills Davis is signing and Bustamante is a damned law breaker! How much more ammunition is needed against these liberal jerks???
OH ... I forgot, it's about principal, right? This whole thing drives me nuts and our conservative side will argue with one another as our state sinks to all new lows ... wonderful!

I try to stay out of these pissing contests, but I have a question for the folks in kalifornia. What will happen if Mc stays in and bustamonta(?) wins. How long before he turns Kalif into upper mexico along with his fellow dems. What will happen to Mcs career then? This situation is getting really strange, sorta reminds me of pats brigades.

I echo your thought. Did you really think that McClintock supporters have been waiting to learn which way Jim Brulte's wind would blow? It's Schwarzenegger's positions on the issues that are causing the divide within the California GOP.

The very question we've been putting to the scorched earthers.
As far as I'm concerned, McC's career is over already.

It looks like McClintock is more interested in advancing Bustamante's career than his own.

That's exactly what they want. Too many have posted " I would rather have Bustamante before Schwarzenegger" than I can count.

As far as I'm concerned, McC's career is over already. Agreed. He's pushed it too far.
