I think I'll be having another cup.

I dedicate this thread to all the coffee drinkers in the forum.

Post your favorites below.

I am having a freshly ground blend of African Coffee beans.

What about you?

A question:

I enjoy coffee flavored ice cream and candy. I enjoy the smell of coffee. I don't have anything against coffee.

However, it seems not to like me. On the rare times I drink coffee, I only have a cup of instant at home, because coffee does a thing on the digestive system. I am trying to be polite here. This has happened to me ever since I was old enough to drink the stuff, so it's not a middle age food sensitivity.

Is there any particular brand or way of making coffee that would be less harsh on the system? I am in Seattle and feel like a lost soul, drinking tea and diet Pepsi out here amongst the coffee annointed.

I would like to belong...

"fancy-schmancy"

My French Roast is crafted at a small firm in the Okanagan Valley.

5 kilo bags of beans are only $80 or so.

That's a month's supply for Mrs. heads and me. ;^)

Just googled Union coffee and chicory, the bag looks familiar but I haven't seen it up here (Northern Virginia).

Will try it the next time I go for a visit. The rest of my family down there prefers Community, or Luzianne.

Coffee with chicory is very popular with the Vietnamese, who learned to drink it from the French, and we do have a lot of Vietnamese in Northern Virginia. I get the Cafe du Monde coffee at Asian markets.

An odd note: another thing Vietnamese like is a beef soup they call pho. I recently found out that it is their version of pot au feu! They even pronounce it as the French pronounce feu!

If by "does a thing on the digestive system" you mean acts as a laxative, coffee will do that. Keeps you "astonishingly regular." It's also a diuretic.

But you get used to it.

My personal fav is New Guinea Sigri, I have it shipped from House of Coffee Beans in Houston, TX.

Starbucks' Verona beans are mighty good, too.

Taking the High Grounds
- The Story of Coffee -

IIRC, "Joe" refers to Josephus Daniel, Secretary of the Navy, who stopped the daily allotment of rum.

BTW, I prefer the French Press method - I like the little gritty bits.

I am sorry to hear that. Kearsarge (circa 1966-68) coffee was drinkable, barely.

In the Kitty Hawk (1970-72), I personally made sure that my men drank the best coffee available to us -- my Division yeoman was under strict orders re: coffee -- "Only the best!"

It is why, to this day, I do not like Starbucks -- reminds me of the over-strong, very acidic Navy stuff!
