The GOP congressman whose money put the recall on the ballot urged Republicans Monday to keep Democratic Gov. Gray Davis in office if neither Arnold Schwarzenegger nor Tom McClintock pulls out of the race by election day.

"If two major Republicans remain on the ballot, I'd advise you to vote 'no' on the recall," said Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista (San Diego County), who spent more than $1.6 million of his own money to help gather signatures to recall Davis.

Here is the key sentence in the whole article:

"Issa said that McClintock, a strong conservative, has admitted to him that it was unlikely he could win a one-on-one race for governor."

Funny how the media will tell a lie and then repeat it later as if it were accepted fact.

Issa did not start the recall. He came along at a time money was needed and gave it the financial backing it needed to see the effort through.

I'm sure others on here can give a more accurate history fo the start of the recall.

Then you guys need to play a little hardball with Tom. Like a couple of primary opponents while he runs for state senate, or maybe an independent challenge during the general election.

"Issa said that McClintock, a strong conservative, has admitted to him that it was unlikely he could win a one-on-one race for governor."

Nah, that's hearsay.

Here's the key sentence, in bold...

SCHWARZENEGGER STALLED John Stoos, McClintock's deputy campaign director, said recent polls have shown the Ventura County state senator picking up ground while Schwarzenegger's effort has stalled.

"If Arnold Schwarzenegger is as strong a candidate as everyone wants us to believe, why is he spending so much time trying to get us out?" he asked.

Schwarzenegger has run too far to the Left, and into difficulty winning the votes of McClintock's supporters on his merits.

His strategy wasn't good. He should change it.

Issa is a prescient man
He sees through Tom Tom's game
He knows that winning's not his goal...
A spoiler is his aim.

I ask you, sir, respectfully,
Why do you call me "Dem"
when Clinton has the most to gain
from Tom's self-willful plan?

As much as you dislike hearing this, Arnold has repeated endlessly that he will be cutting spending when he gets to Sacramento.

I am sick and tired of these politicians trying to game this recall race based off polling data which has been jumping all over the place. Vote the way your heart tells you, count the ballots, and see how things turn out on October 8th.

Exactly!! And my heart is saying TOM MCCLINTOCK!! I see a THIRD PARTY DEVELOPING IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. THE CHRISIAN Conservatives are not going to stand back and just watch things deteriorate in the Former Conservative Party, the Republicans. We will create our own!!!!!!!!!!

Arnold supporters are more closely alligned with Democrats

No, we're not. We are as deeply conservative as the folks promoting McClintock, but we are better at math and know that advancing some of the GOP platform is preferable to letting Cruz rule unrestrained as a socialism-loving racist.

Nobody is listening to this good advice. Recall may fail anyway, and that wouldn't be a bad thing.

But McClintock doesn't sound like a man getting ready to bail out of the recall replacement race. In an e-mail message sent to supporters Monday, he reminded them that Republican leaders had urged Ronald Reagan to step aside in the 1966 governor's race to clear the GOP primary field for San Francisco Mayor George Christopher, a more moderate candidate.

"Reagan declined. The rest is history,"

NONSENSE! THIS ISN'T A PRIMARY for Republican voters. This is a free for all. Arnold knows what he has to do to get RATS and undecideds to vote for him

"If Arnold Schwarzenegger is as strong a candidate as everyone wants us to believe, why is he spending so much time trying to get us out?" he asked.

Actually I've seen Arnold spend very little time up to now paying any attention to McClintock. McClintock, however, has appeared obsessed with Arnold.

>>> Issa did not start the recall <<<

He fueled it,
You know it.
Now Tom is going to blow it.

By putting sand inside the tank,
The Dems will all have you to thank.

Uh, Toothy .... I agree with you by the way about wetbacks getting drivers licenses but I'm not sure I understand the uproar given that calyfonicate has always handed a driver's license to whomever could pass the test and the test has been in spanish for decades. (I used to live there but I grew up). If you guys are going to complain to the overlords out there why not make it a little more retroactive?

This "vote for Arnold or we'll pull the plug on the recall!" threat appears to be something that was concocted in a focus group session.

In other words, "If Arnold can't win, then no one can! So there!!! Boo hoo hoo hoo!"

The RINO Boys have done that before with other conservative assemblyman/state senators. It is one of the reason the Rats have nearly a 2/3 majority in the legislature.

Hearing it is actually pleasant.

Unfortunately believing that he'll be cutting spending where it needs to be cut, namely entitlements, cannot happen when he has already proposed support for the same and even suggested new entitlements...For The Children...of course.

It is beyond me why this dichotomy escapes the attention of Arnold's allegedly conservative supporters. Perhaps it's the blinding light of the spotlight that follows him. We also know who's directing that the spotlight be upon Schwarzenegger...and it isn't conservatives, nor even moderates.

So you don't believe Dana Rorhabacher is a conservative?

He stated on Fox yesterday that voting for Arnold will advance our ideals... voting for McClintock won't and is just "beating ourselves on the chest" and hollering about principles.

On cue, the title of this SFC article is misleading. The liberal media knows well that most people scan the headlines and read only 5% of the articles. By only reading this headline, a reader would come away with the planted impression that Issa is making a blanket call to vote NO on the recall. One would have to read the article would to discover the truth.

It is a common propaganda technique in the liberal press where devotion to party politics is more important than truth or what is best for America. In other words, lie in the title, bury the truth in the article for plausible deniability.
