U.S. Says Effort Has Halted Desert Deaths

MEXICO CITY, Sept. 21 -- Mexican officials are strongly protesting a new U.S. program that flies illegal immigrants caught in the Arizona desert hundreds of miles to Texas, where they are returned to Mexico.

U.S. officials say the program, begun Sept. 8, is a humanitarian measure aimed at preventing returned migrants from simply attempting to cross again into Arizona, where many have died of exposure. Instead, U.S. officials are flying them as far east as Laredo, Tex., into more populated and less dangerous sections of the border.

The U.S. Embassy here said the pilot program, which concludes at the end of this month, has worked. Nearly 2,400 illegal immigrants have been taken from Arizona to Texas, and since the program began, no deaths have been reported in a desert that has averaged more than one death a day in recent years.

Let them protest...
So long as they do it from south of the border.

Exactly! They are here illegally -- what do they expect -- a Holiday Inn! I think this program is great and should be continued!

What do they mean by protesting the expulsion program? It's not like we're shoting them out of a "Circus Cannon" back across the border.

Sounds good to me. They should be grateful for the parachutes.

They have no problems sealing off their own southern border.

If thousands of gringos started heading south over that northern border of Mexico, they'd be doing something about that real quick.

Really I think the Mexican government would be happier if we sent them smack into the middle of the Sonoran desert and let them die. To see how much the Mexican officials really care about the illegals, our officials only need to say "oil for illegals" and they start showing their true colors. No --- they don't care one drop of oil about these people.

Seriously, I would prefer that they be flown back to Mexico City.

Mexico is one of the leading petroleum producers in the world, and an industrialized country that sells its primary products for dollars on the world market. There is no reason at all that they should be unable to absorb their own population. There is no reason they should be unable to pay their work force more than $1 to $2 an hour. Their products sell on the world market for dollars, same as everyone else.

If access to cheap labor is the supposed secret of our economic success, why is Mexico unable to prosper when it is the source of that cheap labor?

Hundreds of thousands of Mexicans leave every year, a calamity of biblical proportions, and no one questions it. Its accepted as being just part of life, like the weather.

Exactly. Some people believe in "zero-sum" economics and think that there are a set amount of jobs, a set amount of middle class lifestyles and that we must "share" ours with the less fortunate. But Mexico could easily have a high standard of living --- it competes with Great Britain in number of billionaires! It just needs to make a few important changes, denationalize the oil for one ---- they've got huge oil reserves. 80% of the population should not be living in severe poverty.

The other thing --- becoming more and more a parasite economy is only making things worse. In states like Zacatecas, 50% of the population now is living in the USA sending money back to hold the other 50% above water until they too can make it over here. Mexico is becoming like one great inner-city ---totally dependent on money coming in from the outside but no investments being made.

Based on the blatant interference in our domestic affairs by the Mexican government, to say nothing of border patrol officers coming under fire from our good neighbors to the south, my vote would be to send thousands of gringos over the border into Mexico.

Only these gringos would uniformed and armed. In that event, the only thing the Mexicans would do real quick would be to surrender and sue for peace.

That won't happen. Nor does it need to. Those thousands of troops need only position themselves at the border. That'll get Mexico's attention and end the careers of many a coyote.

Unfortunately, Washington seems indifferent to the porousness of our southern border, costing it credibility in the War on Terror, and leaving Americans vulnerable to Islamo-fascist penetration.

Washington knows---- but for some reason has decided that the current government of Mexico should stay as it is. If there were any controls placed on immigration, the Mexican people who want a better life would have to start looking at their own government as the reason they don't have one --- and revolution would quickly take place. The elites have convinced us we need them in power so we protect them from losing that power by encouraging immigration.

After we finish with our job in Iraq, I think our government should take a serious look at Mexico as the next possible target for a regime change and a total revamping of how things are structured in that country.

rather than actually fixing mexico's economy.

The bad news is, it can't be fixed, 1/3 of Mexico's GNP is money sent there by it's citizens who are in this country taking money out of our economy, sending money back to Mexico,

We need to get creative here and make enough noise until someone listens, because once one person does,(media) it will catch on and before you know it that is all that will be talked about, because it is the one issue that will lose us the next election. We don't have to withold taxes or votes, getting this to the media will kill our votes.

Don't make the Mistake of crossing the US mexican border with a Gun. IF You cross the border without Mexican approval, you won't see the SUN until your Family Bribes the Policia with enough money that you can "Escape" to the US.
If we treat the Mexicans the way they treat US citizens, War would be being fought on the Southern Border. If you can't Bribe the Officalor guard, you can't survive in a Mexican Prison.

The reason the Mexicans won't be stopped from invading is, for my opinion, cheap labor(Republicans), uneducated voters(Democ-rats). So, both are sleeping in the same bed.

They should STFU and stay in their miserable cesspool of a third world country and try and drag it out of feudalism into the 21st century.

Yup. Want a better life, José? Build a better Mexico.

These clowns ought to be shipped to Belize or Guatemala on slow boats and kicked into Mexico from there. It's a long walk back to the northern border. Would Vicente be ticked off or what? LOL!

these Mexican officials are "racists"

If you can find a definitive work about this that predates liberal history revisionism, you'll see that Mexico and its citizens murdered a colossal number of Mexico's indigenous population, specifically of the Yaqui tribe.

The Mexicans are and have long been an incredibly prejudicial bunch of folks. Those that are "pure" Spanish lord it over the "Meztizos" (mixture of Spanish and Indian), and Meztizos over the Indian. And it doesn't suit their self-image that the "pure" Spanish are loaded with Arabic blood from the Morrocans' occupation of Spain for some 800 years.

Then to complain about some "yanquis" being prejudiced against them makes me wonder if there's a word in Spanish that correlates to "hypocritical."
