Dixie Chicks to break with country scene
Ananova ^ | 9/22/03 | Wire

The Dixie Chicks say they don't want to be a country music band any more.

Violinist Martie Maguire told Spiegel magazine: "We don't feel part of the country scene any longer, it can't be our home any more."

She said she was disappointed other country singers didn't back up the Dixie Chicks in their criticism of George W Bush's politics on Iraq.

"A few weeks ago, Merle Haggard said a couple of nice words about us, but that was it," Maguire complained.

"The support we got came from others, like Bruce Springsteen."

Going home empty-handed from the Country Awards ceremony also made them decide to break with the scene, Maguire said.

"Instead, we won three Grammys against much stronger competition.

"So we now consider ourselves part of the big Rock 'n' Roll family."

I hear ya. I loved my grandma, and she was sometimes wrong about politics too, believe it or not. What should I do? Add her to my blacklist? I don't think so. Take care.

that is probably their PR roadmap. Continue to tour europe and cash in on their anti-american stance. Then they will "reinvent" themselves and return under some new name as the new and improved chix.

They will have to change their name. And there was already a group called the "Dixie Dregs" (good stuff too).

How a bout the Dixie Chiggers? "The Dixie Chiggers" - coming to a Holiday Inn lounge near you!

I was very disappointed to hear that Springsteen had something nice to say about these pieces of work.

Heck, he's publicly advocating impeachment of President Bush! Sticking up for them is nothing! Sort of like when Chris Kristopherson gave Sinead O'Conner that big hug on stage at a concert in NYC when she was boo'd off the stage after she tore up the photo of the Pope on SNL.

Competition? is this true? I always thought country music was a harder arena to get into and far more difficult to stay.

I knew they really weren't country when they did the special with James Taylor. Natalie could not have made a bigger deal about how he was her idol, she played him all the time when she was a child, etc., etc. It was easy to tell it was just a matter of time before they crossed over--to the dark side!

Rock 'n Roll, eh? Can drug busts and girl-kissing be far behind?

Natalie's father IS a real country artist: Lloyd Maines has a long history in Texas country music, both as a steel guitar player and as a producer. And Natalie does have talent. She's got a terrific voice, although I feel it's better suited for rock and roll than country. And the two sisters are extremely talented, both as musicians and song writers. I also happen to think that they're both babes, expecially Emily. It's just too bad that they've got cottage cheese for brains.

The Dixie Chicks are to Country what the Monkees were to 60's Rock and Roll.

Now they've gone home.

So the Chix will be spending a lot more money on C batteries.

The support came from their "new family"--fellow Grammy contenders/Hollywood. Watch for them when they reappear in stilletos with acoustic guitar backup. Come to think of it, they had many such guitars at their concert. Things are already in place, including a world debut of their new video on VH1--not CMT.

In their latest move, The Dixie Chicks have basically admitted defeat, and in essence, proven to the world that the boycott worked.

Recall how all their "people" kept insisting that the Chicks' concerts were continuing to be sold out, that their record sales were at the top of the charts, despite the drop in sales by almost 50%.

Even their nudie-fest on the cover of "Entertainment Weekly" (hey...it wasn't about the nudity) was a bomb. I suppose in their "freedom to express" they were hoping we'd all respect them again? Or did they wish that we'd all feel guilty? Like all of us wicked boycotters somehow were to blame for their taking it all off. Bad, bad, bad boycotters.

In my opinion, their stupidity runs much deeper than once thought.
