Well, we all know that the Pope's health has been on the decline, but none of us know how soon to expect his eventual death. For all we know, God intends to carry him forward a while longer.

40,002 petitions to Governor Jeb Bush (as of 5.30 GMT-5). Everyone is to be commended and thanked. Keep them cards and letters coming!

I received an email from Jeb's office. I LOVED the first two or three sentences. After that, I was left with an uneasy feeling that he has done all he can do and it is in the hands of the courts. These are the same courts that attempted to rewrite election laws from the bench, during that infamous and embarrassing election of 2000, complete with dimpled and hanging chads.

These 'courts' are breaking the law and are denying basic human rights guaranteed by the US Constitution.

This is a very sad state of affairs.

I did not know that petitions were being presented in addition to the earlier 27,000 emails. Has the governor said thqt he has no jurisdiction here?

Terri is now down to just over 308 hours before the feeding tube is removed. Was she fed at all when the tube was removed earlier? I presume that she was denied food by mouth even if she could take it from a spoon. No one has answered that question, at least not to my knowledge.

What is wrong with FL and Pinellas Co.? That is the question.

Yes, indeed, when the FL Supremes tried to provide a victory "protocol" for Gore, the Bushes got involved in a hurry, didn't they? They sent in Jim Baker of Houston to manage their recount strategy. They did not take "No" for an answer from the courts. So why does Republican Jeb Bush meekly accept "No" in Terri's case? Will he be a candidate for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination? Is he seeking support from euthanasia advocates while giving lip service to right-to-life? "Inquiring minds want to know."

Yes, I agree it (lightning strike analogy) is not meant to be taken literally.

However, each of us, including Michael Schiavo, are not guaranteed another heartbeat, another breath, or another day.

He will meet his Maker as all of us will. I would not want to stand before the Almighty and Everlasting God, the Creator of the Universe and all living things, and face Him with THIS (Terri's tragic circumstances) on my resume.

Our life is like a split second compared to eternity.
Justice will prevail.

That's actually a very good question and it should be addressed. When Terri had her nutrition halted before, her siblings went to the facility where she was and started questioning nurses and doctors if they could try spoon-feeding her. Questions, mind you. They did nothing more.

Well, they nearly ended up in jail and both were barred for six months afterwards. That was for asking if they could try baby food with Terri.

Now, those of you reading this, please keep in mind that the "husband" and his lawyer do not want Terri fed by spoon because of the fear that she will not properly handle soft foods or fluids and aspirate them, causing complications. However, they have no problem forcing her to dehydrate to death.

Screwy little set of personal concerns, wouldn't you say?

Barring her own siblings. If that isn't heartless...

This is a canned response and I would urge you to pay it no mind. The Governor may be looking into this, but he can't quite send missives to the general public saying "You're right - let's tag those maggots!!" He has to play things pretty much down the middle. The good news is that he, or his office, understands that this is important enough not to blow off. Hence the canned letter.

He may get involved. He may not. But I think the fact that you recieved a reply indicates that he is well aware of the weight of the situation. My gut tells me he is probably not taking it very lightly. Time will tell.

Honestly, I don't see how the Schindler's can stand up to this tyranny in a "free country." The American people approved of "Schindler's List," but they seem uninterested in saving another "Schindler" from starvation! I question the values of our people from FL to CA, from ME to HI and the points in-between.

I don't know if you realize how poignant your reference is. This is the new Third Reich, isn't it? I don't know about the rest of the crowd here, but I never thought I would live to see the day when society would get comfy with the idea of terminating those with afflictions or lesser abilities. I thought it was all a nightmare from 65 years ago. Guess I was wrong.

Well, I am hoping and praying that our society really isn't comfy with this horror, but I do believe that we are asleep at the wheel! I know I was until I saw Terri's video. Now I can't stop thinking about this travesty! I want so much to believe in the goodness of mankind, instead of how evil we have become, but there are some pretty blaring facts that are difficult to keep overlooking. I feel as helpless as the Jews in Nazi Germany, wondering when this craziness will all stop. I am praying that it will stop in time for Terri and her family! May God guide us in this time of need!

I get that from so many people. They didn't think too much into this until they saw her for their own eyes. Then, they flipped their noodles. I've received so many emails stating "what in the hell is wrong with you people in Florida!!?"

What they don't seem to see is that Florida and Terri are the test cases. This is coming to a hospital near you if this goes down. Believe me when I tell you that the people of Florida have legitimate concerns over this. More than 40% of them are of retirement age. Would you want this hanging over your head in the years that were supposed to be fun and worry-free?

Yes, people are blind to this. I will give you that. But, when they see the videos of Terri, they come round fast. They see what's going down. It should horrify each and every one of us.

Bottom line, kids: We don't execute people because we might be personally inconvenieced by them one day.

IF I were a betting man, I would bet that Jeb Bush DOES NOT intervene on Terri's behalf.

I HOPE AND PRAY THAT I AM WRONG ABOUT THIS!

I am not sure exactly what he can do (if anything) if the higher courts do not intervene, but, I recall the actions of a certain governor who reversed court decisions of dozens if not a hundred or more convicted felons on death row, not that long ago.

I hope Jeb goes above and beyond the call of duty to help Terri and the Schindler family. The simple fact that he has waited so long to act (letter to Greer) does not leave me encouraged that he will.

Ok Gang. It's time for the full court press. The clock is running out.

Who is willing to put their words into action?

I am ready, willing and able.

Email me at MisterJDC@aol.com or freep mail me.

There are strength in numbers. We must organize and act to STAND UP for Terri and BE THERE for the Schindler family.

Who is with me?

Check out that dv website:
"Neglect: Intentionally withholding medication, shelter, food, personal hygiene products, or clothing; infliction of physical or emotional stress or injury; abandonment."

Check out the elder abuse area: almost all of it applies to Terri!

Man Accused Of Starving Wife Surrenders, Police Search For Daughter

UPDATED: 1:46 p.m. EST July 27, 2003

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man accused of starving his wife to death turned himself in to police Thursday.

Suspect's Attorney: Man Took Care Of Wife

Clyde Bailey (pictured, left), 57, was wanted on charges of neglect in connection with the death of his wife, Sammie Bailey. Police and medics found the woman dead March 13 in her bed.

The couple's daughter, Kelli Bailey, 18, also faces felony neglect charges, but she hadn't been located by Sunday afternoon.

Officers had been looking for Clyde Bailey and Kelli Bailey since arrest warrants were issued last week.

Sammie Bailey ... who was 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighed 52 pounds when she died, court records said. Indiana University pathologist Dr. John Pless said she had coronary disease, but the cause of death was "chronic dehydration and malnutrition."

I wonder if Bailey had read about Schiavo's quest to starve Terri, before deciding to starve his own wife.

[Bailey] also told investigators that on the day she died, she wrote a note saying that she couldn't speak and was having a stroke, but that she didn't want medical treatment, police said.
