A transsexual from McKeesport who was injured in a botched castration said Saturday that desperation to live a normal life played a major role in undergoing the procedure.

"I've been Cathy all my life. This is my identity," the victim said yesterday afternoon. "I just wanted to become completely what I am."

None, as far as I know. In fact, I don't think changing gender is even possible, unless you call castration and mutilation a gender change.

Lenhart had the victim take several over-the-counter pain medications and asked Watson to drink alcohol to help curb the pain. The procedure took place in the dining room of Watson's home.

If someone has a bizarre desire to amputate his limb, psychiatrists have no problem telling him he needs treatment. But if he wants to chop off something else, psychiatrists treat the person as normal. Why?

I believe that in order for a sex change to proceed, the person must first be diagnosed with a mental disorder.

Actually, the transsexual is diagnosed with gender identity disorder (or gender dysphoria) before the operation. But someone who claims they have a strong need for amputation of a limb is just diagnosed with a disorder, not given an operation to amputate the limb. So why the difference in treatment?
