If someone has a bizarre desire to amputate his limb, psychiatrists have no problem telling him he needs treatment. But if he wants to chop off something else, psychiatrists treat the person as normal. Why? I believe that in order for a sex change to proceed, the person must first be diagnosed with a mental disorder.

Actually, the transsexual is diagnosed with gender identity disorder (or gender dysphoria) before the operation. But someone who claims they have a strong need for amputation of a limb is just diagnosed with a disorder, not given an operation to amputate the limb. So why the difference in treatment?
