As stated, most of the polls survey about 1000 people. To extrapolate that to 100,000 people's behavior begs credibility. To then base your conclusion on such is even a further stretch.

Granted, McClintock is the long shot, but he's also the only conservative Republican running in the recall election campaign.

Arnold is a liberal and McClintock has no chance of winning.

IMO, this whole thing is sad and it is in the home state of FreeRepublic no less.

Good point. It's instructive to remember that Simon lost only because of his own personal missteps, and not because of any widespread opposition to his agenda. If he had been more competent, he would be in the governor's office right now. Was it possible to foresee that he'd self-destruct like he did? I'm not sure. I didn't see any warning signs, but then again I didn't follow the election single-mindedly.

Make sure you watch the segment after McClintock, too. You'll hear lisping lib weasel Chris Lehane saying the exact same things about Schwarzenegger that you are.

We've been seeing Arnold in interviews for years! It's not a new thing to see him on these programs, being interviewed. We're not all just being introduced to him, like a Wesley Clark or Howard Dean. Or Tom McClintock. A lot of the undecideds will most likely vote for him. It's not an easy leap...seeing him in Terminator 3 in July and then voting for him in October. But he gradually is changing some perceptions. He did a very good job with Larry King. He has ideas and convictions. And some voters are simply looking for leadership, knowing others will do much of the more detailed work. That is what effective leaders often do, anyway...they delegate and inspire!

Yes, but before the election campaign he was not talking about the economy, or jobs, or whatever. My recollections are that his promo appearances for all his films were strictly politically neutral. This was to be expected, since he didn't want to alienate potential viewers with any particular political inclination.

But during the election, he entered into a different arena of viewer attention, the political arena.

In the political arena, pre-election fame may get one an entree to be listened to by viewers. But you still have to be believable in the new arena to be sufficiently credible to win the election.

I think a lot of people took notice of Arnold and watched him rather carefully. I am guessing that he turned off many people simply by declaring himself a conservative Republican, but then trying to pander to individual liberal special interests that got the state into so much financial trouble to begin with.

Where's Arnold?? Will the real Arnold please stand up??

1) Polls based on 1000 respondents do not accurately predict the votes of 100,000 people.

2) Position in these polls therefore doesn't have much to do with outcome.

3) When all else fails, break out the ad hominem!

4) People who claim they didn't know how to vote are not Freepers.

5) Your stereotypical thinking suggests that you don't know much about what happened in 2000.

She's a Democrat, which just backs up what I've been saying all along, that (R)nold's primary constituency is embarassed Democrats who can no longer defend Davis or Busty with a straight face. They can get a virtual Republican(tm) in the form of (R)nold to save face, without actually having to change any of the habits that got California into the mess in the first place.

Steve, What is the interest in the recall where you live? Are people talking about it, or did the judicial interference "change the topic" (which pf course was one of their goals)? Does Davis actually seem to be gaining in approval as the latest polls indicate?
