FREEP THIS POLL TILL IT GLOWS "Girl Wants To Start Caucasian Club At High School" POLL AT NBC
NBC NEWS ^ | 9/18/2003 | Associated Press

OAKLEY, Calif. -- Lisa McClelland says she isn't a racist. She says her campaign for a Caucasian Club at her California high school is a move toward diversity, not bigotry. SURVEY Should a California high school student be allowed to start a Caucasian Club? Yes, if there are other clubs like the Black Student Union and Asian Club she should be allowed to. No. There should be no clubs targeting any ethnic group. No. Only minorities should be able to have clubs targeting an ethnic group.

She says everyone is invited -- and nobody will be excluded.

McClelland's ethnic background includes American Indian, Hispanic, Dutch, German, Italian and Irish. She says she and her friends feel slighted by other clubs at Freedom High School in Oakley, such as the Black Student Union and the Asian Club.

McClelland says she's collected 245 signatures of support from students, adults and others since announcing her plans three weeks ago.

One person who won't be signing up is Darnell Turner, first vice president of the local chapter of the NAACP. Turner says he thinks the club will create racial tension.

Yes, but an Arab club or a Black club doesn't? One of these days I'll have a White Pride tshirt printed up.

I say No. There should be no clubs targeting any ethnic group. I think if we are to get rid of racial tensions race should have no bearing on anything. clubs should be a common intrest not something racial. We need to become color blind and start judging folks on what kind of character they have. and nothing else.

That's a great idea, but I doubt that it will ever happen.

I'm actually going to go on a limb here and support the move this brave student made. Judging by her actions, it is clear that she did not actually want to have a real "White Club", because when you sit down nd think about it, that would be stupid. Well, the idea is to expose hypocrisy and outirght silliness in the system today by making people realize that this is what other clubs based on race do. And all this coming from a high school senior. This has inspired me. I am a member of my school's newly formed Young Conservative Organization, and many of us are going to get together and form a "Caucasian Club" at school, to show support, get press, and spread the word, and try to make a difference.

That's what this is all about. I wish I had known about the poll, though.

LOL, you are right, it is glowing already!

84% yes, that's not just freepers, that's everybody (almost) taking this poll.

I bet this kid never thought she had this much support in the general public.

if there are other clubs like the Black Student Union and Asian Club

There are two ways to take that.  One wonders, however, how many would see not see the words "Caucasian Club" in this article, but "KKK".

What's *REALLY* crazy is that we should even feel we have to ask this question. Thre precedents have already been set long ago.

Besides, if her school is anything like my kids' schools, they're just another minority anyhow.

I totally agree with what you are saying, but it helps to highlight that the other "clubs" can appear to be racist.

No. (There should be no clubs targeting any ethnic group.) Is the only logical answer, and it is how I voted, but, until racists like jj, Fat Al, and their minions, are shown to be what they are, "Yes" is necessary.

BTW, that portion of Affirmative Action that biases women's groups should also be attacked.

>> "Yes, if there are other clubs like the Black Student Union and Asian Club she should be allowed to" = 85%

It appears the sheer hatefulness of many black-only organizations toward whites has caused a severe backlash. I am not surprised, and I think it is about damn time!

Like the NAACP doesn't cause enough "racial tension" on their own. WTF?

I wonder what would happen if a large number of white kids tried to join the black student union or some other ethnic club? Would they be barred from joining? And if not, what happens when the majority of the members of the black student union are white?

Can a group sponsored by a public school discriminate by barring white students? Sounds like a law suit to me.

When the majority of students in an ethnic club are white, do they have to change their name? Just wondering.

I say No. There should be no clubs targeting any ethnic group.

Why? Why to follow the Soviet model and supress freedom of association?

I think if we are to get rid of racial tensions race should have no bearing on anything. clubs should be a common intrest not something racial.

Clubs by nature do not follow common interest. They form to pursue or enjoy something what is peculiar like additcion to chess or being short.

We need to become color blind and start judging folks on what kind of character they have. and nothing else.

To be blind is to be a cripple. Why don't you find your own club - "the judges of character"? Just do not force me to join.

Oh my God, you're killing me! Remind me not to drink beverages while reading your posts, especially hot liquids.

I'm pretty sure I saw Tyler Durden hanging out by the Starbuck's the other day. He may have been recruiting.
