Sacramento -- Gov. Gray Davis, returning to the site of his two inaugural ceremonies, acknowledged Wednesday he had isolated himself over the past five years by talking exclusively with lawmakers, lobbyists and his staff at the expense of real people.

He said it was a mistake.

"My vision is to make the most diverse state on earth, and we have people from every planet on the earth in this state. We have the sons and daughters of every, of people from every planet, of every country on earth," he said.

I can only imagine the newpaper headlines and news stories had this been said by President Bush.

Right. But by the end of the weekend, it will be long forgotten by all mainstream media.

Kept alive solely in FReeper lore.

"Davis' stumbling on this question may have come from fatigue, after dealing over the past few days with the end of the legislative session, a visit from former President Bill Clinton and other top Democrats, and a surprising federal court ruling Monday that could delay the Oct. 7 election. "

Must be nice to have such understanding reporters on the 'news'. *spit*

I was listening to Tom Sullivan on KFBK Sacramento yesterday and he was talking about the exact same thing. I don't remember what paper he was reading, the LA Times I believe, gave about 3 excuses why he might have blundered. Stuff like he had a hard schedule, hanging out with Klinton, and some other BS crap! They would have had a TOTAL laugh-fest if Bush would have said this!

And when a FReeper points it out to someone they will be called a liar and accused of making it up. But wacko liberals can make up any crazy statement and attribute it to Bush and it is immediatly believed.

USA Today picked it up in a little sidebar:

9/18/03

LOS ANGELES — Gov. Gray Davis has officially validated the view in parts of the USA that the Golden State is far-out.

Meeting Sacramento voters late Wednesday, Davis praised California's diversity: "We have people from every planet on Earth in this state. We have the sons and daughters of every — of people from every planet — of every country on Earth."

The San Francisco Chronicle called this a "stumbling" remark, but it reflects Davis' background. He started in state government in 1975 as chief of staff to Jerry Brown, whose proposal for a state-owned satellite earned him the title "Gov. Moonbeam."

I've got a couple of new campaign slogans for him:

"Davis, the Space Aliens' Choice."

"Davis for Governor of Planet Voltan."

And, last but not least, a picture of a typical Grey-out Davis supporter:

I have searched long and hard to find this on DU. No surprise that I can't. Would be their headline story had Bush said it.

The is nothing wrong with the statement. Many Californians are from other planets, and have dual concurrent residency.

Now we know why he signed the drivers license bill. It brings a whole new meaning to the term "illegal alien".
