FReeper Storm Check-in (vanity)
9-19-03 | me

Posted on 09/19/2003 5:33:24 AM PDT by netmilsmom

Through the week, many of us heard of FReepers who were in the path of Isabel. I personally know Gabz, Corin Stormhands and Consitution Day were in the area. I thought it would be a good idea if we had a thread to ask if someone is ok and let them check in. Prayers to our FRiends in harms way. Thanks!

I feel like we dodged a bullet. I'm glad to hear it was not bad for you either.
I'm familiar with that area around Atlantic... hope it's not too bad there.

No problems here. Just have to clean up lots of branches and leaves. Its a beautiful day here. When I stepped out this morning the air smelled like a wood chipper.

You'll all be interested to learn that the rains, high winds, flooding, downed trees, power outages, etc., were all caused by "Hurricane Israel" - at least that's what Tom Brokaw called it TWICE on Thursday on the NBC Nightly News. No apologies, no acks that he made a mistake. Nope, no bias there.

Yes, we are fine.
My daughter's day care is w/out power, so she went to work with Mrs. CD. :)

We've got lots of leaves to take care of too, but I am going to hire someone to rake them.
I grew up having to rake a s**tload of leaves every fall; now they are the one thing I won't do.

I hope you and yours are OK today. How's your son in law? You probably have your hands full this morning! Just to let you know we're thinking of you.

LOL!

Here in NJ we had a non-storm of sorts. Sure it got a little windy last night, power flickered twice, there are small branches down and a whole bunch of leaves, plus some overnight rain, but we got even less than forcasted.

This morning TWC was saying that locally today we should expect rain (90% chance), half inch total, and gusts up to 50 mph.

It's sunny and 76 right now. About the only thing Isabel did to us was make it downright balmy outside. What a BEAUTIFUL day.

Greetings, I'm one mile southeast from Old Town Alexandria, VA. Over all the storm was lite . As of 1:00 am last night the winds and rain were still lite and we had power with a few very small tree branches down.

As of 2:00 am the power was out and I'm on battery backup now. I may ride my bike and see the normal flooding at Union & King Street in Old Town and check on some friends.

The power grid in our country is a failure and Pepco has asked the Canadians Power Company Teams to come down and help. I'm going to make my home kinda of "power grid free" somehow with more batteries, solar and a generator package.

Good luck to those who have been hit harder but over all the experience was like a typical summer storm.

Tom said it twice after getting it right 6 or 7 times from the top of the show. Must be a hidden meaning, look out bad guys.

Hi!!!!!!!!!!

We're fine.

The one thing that I did not have a backup/contingency plan for is the one thing that happened.

My phones went out....................no phone no puter

So I hunkered down to channel surf the news programs and 15 minutes later the cable went out
I have been news deprived since 3:30 yesterday afternoon.

At 10 this morning both my phones and cable came back on.

Soon as I got the puter fired up I came straight here!!!!!!!!

Judging from my "my comments page" and my FReepmail inbox - I've got a lot of catching up to do.

We fared fine here in Raleigh - my sister-in-law and daughter are driving down to Emerald Isle to check out the house today. They opened up the bridge last night so things must be pretty much OK there. I did see an interview on WRAL-TV news this morning at 6:30 with the Atlantic Beach police chief. The interviewer seemed disappointed that there was no major damage or conditions to report. :-(

The chief of police even said the little bit of water they had was already back in the ocean and sound...
