Through the week, many of us heard of FReepers who were in the path of Isabel. I personally know Gabz, Corin Stormhands and Consitution Day were in the area. I thought it would be a good idea if we had a thread to ask if someone is ok and let them check in. Prayers to our FRiends in harms way. Thanks!

My bud in the area says not much flooding occurred, but lots of wind and trees, power lines down everywhere. Says everybody and his brother-in-law has trees sticking out their houses. Says power isn't expected until Tuesday, maybe...
I just got my hands on one of our library's copies of Treason. we're in a mixed demographic area. I think there are more copies of Hillary's book in the county system than there are of Treason. Even so, I think there are about 17, and I only had to wait a week to get one. Hillary's tome is available . . . not all copies, but plenty are sitting on the shelves. Hmmmm.
As soon as we get our Isabel damage cleaned up, I can start on Treason - now there's a motivator to get out the work gloves! I'm only inside on the 'puter because my sons have a play date and the three of them need occasional 'facilitation'. Yesterday we had them working in the yard and it was a lot more peaceful AND productive. Sigh.
It was scary for awhile though.
Now that's cute! I've never heard it called that. Our generator saved us a lot of grief, but it isn't hooked up to the entire houseful of circuits. The stove and oven and off-circuit, for example. My husband was about to fetch the camp stove to cook some eggs for breakfast when I remembered my seldom-used electric skillet. It did a nice job! Good thing it didn't go to a yard sale just yet!
After we clean up our two downed trees (the 3rd was back by the stream where we'll just let it rot), we're in for a strategic consideration of which trees to remove before more storms hit. We're sick to death of 100 foot trees falling in storms. We're up to 9 fallen tulip poplars in less than 10 years, and that's not counting the 15 or so we've removed for other reasons. Getting expensive, and our insurer already replaced our roof once.
I'm a PSU grad who now lives in Chesterfield County, VA (just south of Richmond). I moved here from Chester COunty, PA.
However, my brother lives in State College and said it wasn't too bad. Family near Allentown PA lost power for quite a while, though.

We have some very tall trees in our backyard. After surveying the damage in our neighborhood we were very fortunate none fell.
I have no idea..............I haven't even thought about going that far yet - I'm still trying to figure out how to take regular pictures with it!!!!
We went into it with a well-thought-out contingency plan.
Last Mon. we inventoried canned food, and made sure we had meals for five people for five days. Last Tues we fueled the generator and gave it a test run to make sure it was working. Last Wed. we topped the tanks to the car and SUV. Last Thurs. AM we cranked the temp control to max in both the fridge and freezer (in the after action analysis, wife and I felt this was critical to our saving almost all of our food).
After the lights went out, it was then a matter of using our heads and taking advantage of anything that could be thrown our way (what little that was). We studiously avoided opening the fridge or freezer except at meal time--this limited the time warm air could work on things inside. We also made sure we went went Dominion Power announced a dry ice handout. That bought us more time with stuff we had in the refrigerator and freezer (two adults equaled the right to have two co2 blocks).
Even though the generator supplied running water - it was cold! That's the one thing I'm glad we have back--HOT WATER!!
All of you East Coast Freepers did a wonderful survivalship job!
