Oakley (AP) - Lisa McClelland says she isn't a racist. She says her campaign for a Caucasian Club at Freedom High School in the eastern Contra Costa County town of Oakley is a move toward diversity, not bigotry.

McClelland says everyone is invited - and nobody will be excluded.

There was an interesting column by Michael Gonzalez in yesterday's Wall Street Journal entitled "Mr. Aznar's Reign in Spain."

Among other things talks about Aznar's ideas about American Hispanics...quotes him saying "I want Hispanics there to know that they have common European roots and a heritage that can be as solid as the Anglo-Saxon one." He is also quoted as saying that "Bush will win the election and will do it on his own, but if he needs a hand he'll have it" (that is, Aznar is ready to help). He's going to Miami this month "to be with the Cubans."

The article also mentions Chirac's use of "la resistance" to refer to the terrorists trying to sabotage US efforts in Iraq. That Chirac wants to liken them to the anti-Nazi resistance shows the depth of his hatred for the U.S. and for Bush.

The club needs to be there and be a voice for themselves the way other clubs have been.
Because of a color, they should not be left without a club.

They have historically shown their "strong ethnic bondage" by wishing to live, socialize, study together, just like other groups do.

What about the mixed Caucasians who have no identity with Germany? They aren't allowed in the black or hispanic clubs, they wouldn't fit in with groups dealing with Irish culture.

They aren't. African-Americans can be anyone from the continent of Africa --- South Africans, Ugandans, Nigerians, Egyptians, Ethiopians. Hispanics aren't even from one continent, they can be from Spain --- Europe, from Cuba, from Argentina, from Central America, the USA and many other places.

I don't think "La Raza" members would believe you on this. I know a lot of Hispanics who don't speak Spanish --- so I don't think it's language, plus many are atheists and Protestants so it's not religion and to me Mexican corridas and mariachis don't sound much like Puerto Rican salsas or Colombian cumbias and none sound like Julio Iglesias.

However the Asian Club or the Black Student Union is incapable of creating racial tension. Such is the mindset of the ignorant!!

Methinks you understand very little of which you speak, but if speak you must, then speak for yourself, not for others. You stated Whites have no bond to other Whites as a whole, only to their own particular White ethnicity. That leads me to paraphrase one Priscilla Mullins, "speak for yourself, John Alden".

I am ethnic nothing, not Pole, Dane, English, German, or (fill in the blank) American, but a White American. I have no bond to any one certain White ethnicity, but a bond to them all as Whites. I am first an American, second, I am a White American, and I am very proud to be both.
