[history]
Many years ago Chris Matthews--now famous on TV--hit on an interesting formulation: He said the Democrats were the "mommy party" and the Republicans the "daddy party." That is, the Democrats were "nurturers," concerned with health policy and day care. The Republicans were "protectors," taking care of national security and other manly matters. This notion is obviously galling to some. But Mr. Matthews was on to something, and we now find ourselves in a "daddy party" time.

I was going to post it in breaking news, but of course it isn't. Front page news was more appropriate.

Liberal men are wusses. I am totally turned off by the Oprahization/Feminization of American men. It's disgusting IMO.
I'll take a REAL conservative man or no man at all.
Let my man protect my kids and I and I'll do the nurturing, thank you very much.

Interesting theory -- although I know two quietly Republican gay men who vote that way because they are sick and tired of being taxed to pieces.

If only men voted the GOP would have won every Presidental race for the last 20 years. Men vote Republican by a significant margin.

Could you imagine, for just one second, Bush, Cheney, or Rumself hiring a consultant to teach them how to act like a man a la' Gore?
Nah. Didn't think so.

Funny. I know a Black woman who votes GOP (and hates affirmative action) but keeps it secret from her family because she's afraid they'll disown her.

He can be cocky, certainly--sort of defiant-cocky, righteous-cocky. In March 2002, he told an audience, "Obviously, as you well know, we found some of them [the terrorists] bunched up in the Shahikote Mountains [of Afghanistan]. And we sent our military in. And they're not bunched up anymore." Badda-bing.
I love this one
Cheers!!

*nod* What I mistakenly left out of my initial post -- about the 2 gay men I know who quietly are staunch Republican voters -- is that in many ways, other than politics anyway, they can be rather stereotypical gays, particularly in that they are really effeminate. Not screaming camp, but way being milquetoast. So it just goes to show that masculinity isn't always the "push" for GOP support.
