[history]
The spelling of Jayson Blair's first name suggests that he is black. Seeing the name when I read an article about the first indications that he had been fabricating stories for the New York Times, a chill went up my spine. What worried me was not that a black person had been screwing up. We can expect that black people, as human beings, will have their bad days like anyone else. But I imagined one direction the fracas might go: that Jayson just might "spin" the story into a tale of discrimination.

(Jayson) ....Blair is a college drop-out who nevertheless was hired by the top general-interest newspaper in the country at 23, steadily promoted despite repeated flubs and professional misconduct, and just two years later was sitting pretty as a full reporter. .....Blair (is depicted) as the aggrieved slave "acting out" against the deathless bugbear of racism. Hey, this would make a great TV series.
Every week Jayson could figure out a new way to dumb down journalism, fool the reader, and screw the NYT, as well.
The happy ending would take place in the book publisher's office where Jayson would receive a huge advance for being the penultimate victim, and is rewarded for his ability to be a lying, spiteful ex-NYT employee.

Weekly guest stars such as Jo Conason, Joe Klein, Robert Fisk, Cynthia Tucker, Katie Couric, Paul Begala, James Carville and their ilk, could educate would be TV watching journalists on the finer points of Nazi-era propaganda.
A side contest could be held on who could tell a lie long enough that it gets believed.

Wow. Great title.
And that guest list. They're all so practiced at lying, that could become a real cliff-hanger.
