I am amazed that a vote was even considered. Is this a new development?

Usually the legislatures just pass the tax and let the people howl.

Seattle has rejected placing a tax on black Espresso. This proves they are not racist. However, the children will suffer....

No, actually, they are.

Mark my words: Murray will be reelected, and so will McDermott, and so will Larsen.

Bozo the Clown will probably run for Governor here, and he'll win. He'll win just in time for Boeing to announce the 7E7 is going to be built in Texas.

The local Indian tribe is fighting the pier that Boeing is asking for (will interfere with fishing). The local IAW union, with it's bronze statue of picketers (3 strikes in 5 years, and a near strike last year), will strike Boeing as they are taking the art off the building walls and packing it up for Texas or St. Louis.

No, we are quite insane. All this vote proves is that liberals here are complete hypocrits.

They did the same with the gas tax we voted down. They wanted a 9 cent per gallon tax, the first of THREE phases of a massive tax hike to pay for transit and roads. Voters rejected it with a 2 to 1 margin.

Legislature gets together, first item of business was passing a 5 cent per gallon tax. I kid you not.

Well, at least now you can smoke/possess marijuana in Washinton without the threat of getting busted.

If I am not mistaken, Washington consumers pay the highest gasoline taxes in the nation. With the federal gas tax, it adds up to around 50 cents per gallon. In other words, for every fill-up of 20 gallons, you're paying 10 dollars in tax! But the rest of you should not gloat, everyone is getting gouged by the gubbamint no matter where you live. At least in Washington now, they won't arrest you if you want to smoke dope and forget your bad government woes in purple haze.

I never understood how they could come up with a tax for espresso drinkers but not for other hot beverages. Why exempt regular coffee, tea, herbal tea and Chai??

Nope. This was the liberal's latest try for a new tax here in the People's Socialist Republic. These liberals voted down the tax for coffee, but approved the new law that having small amounts of "weed" is ok and that police cannot stop you for it and should not make it a reason to stop someone. Save a whale, save an owl, yes to drugs, abort a kid, but don't mess with their coffee. Stinking liberals.

You mean even the Liberals in Seattle don't want to be taxed for thier luxeries?

There are a lot of people in Seattle (excluding me) who, living under rain-soaking skies 392 days a year, do not consider a latte a luxury.

Ever notice how many Brits, living under similar conditions, still drink tea?

Honestly, there is a connection. Some of us here use coffee to replace sunshine for the lift it gives.

And for any who don't have the whole story, it seems the chief objection to the dime extra tax is, First the lattes, where will this stop? I don't blame them. I'm glad it went down.

Children's early educational needs should be paid for by all the voters, not just the coffee drinkers.

Remember when the state legislature called an "emergency" session after the voters rejected a taxpayer financed $500 million stadium for the Seattle Mariners. The legislature passed the bill, and the Governor signed it! All despite the overwhelming and clear "no" vote of the people.

I will never forget that and it galls me every time I have to think about it.
