BOSTON (AP) -- Four white men passed over for firefighting jobs in favor of minority candidates who scored lower on civil service tests must be hired as soon as possible, a federal judge has ruled.

The men had sued the Boston Fire Department for discrimination. They must also be awarded back pay and seniority they would have earned since October 2000, the date they were denied employment...

....In today's U.S. Supreme court, God (thrown out of every other court in America, but still on the wall, there) only knows what will happen. But, no matter what happens there on this one, this is just the beginning.

Funny thing is, here in liberal New York, the FDNY is about 90% white (Irish white at that), although the NYPD seems to be more intergrated.

You take a government job, expect to get shafted by AA. Nevertheless, a shout of congratulations to these soon to be firefighters.

It was years before I finally applied for my dream job and was hired. An hour later, they called saying HQ said they could only hire a black so I was dumped. The position stayed posted for several years without a single black applying.

Another job, I was told to my face my high scores were passed over due to having to hire a minority so I wish these firefights all the best.

Probably not. There will be some other problem or classification--like "favored plurality" ginned up when the original classification no longer works. It's not as if the quota-meisters are bound by some longstanding, constant sense of principle or justice.

About time.

About 10 years ago I was turned-down for a job as a Safety Inspector with the FAA "... because we've been ordered not to hire any more white males until we get more women and people of color" (to the ever-lasting shame of George H.W. Bush). The hiring manager blushed and looked at the floor when he told me. BTW, my scores and experience were above those of any other candidate. They hired a woman with 1/3 my qualifications who subsequently "left" the FAA for undisclosewd reasons. Your government at work.

But tolerance.org, the ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, and most posters on FR, have labeled them racist hate groups.

That's a pant-load. These groups are as leftist as they come. They occasionally take a high profile case for a right wing nucase group to claim they're bi-partisan.

Bring back the MANoftheyear award. Awards directed at men who are distinguished for "insert profession or something here".

There are more than enough woman of the year awards to silence any critics and if a particular group gives issue, then just add a woman of the year award.

What are we to do? Expose the liars (ie FR,Fox) and then just laugh at them. Really laugh. Please the southern poverty law center? even in LAW SCHOOL we learned they recieved part of their funding from the USSR.

Well, both of you agree with me that some of the groups I named in my post are Leftists. I assume you didn't mean Free Republic.

But you both dodged the main round. Such groups as NAAWP, White Aryan Resistance, Christian Identity, and the Ku Klux Klan, are in fact white male special interest groups.

I concur along with Richard, that the Left groups will once or twice take a case defending one of the Right groups. But not frequently enough to call the ACLU unbiased.

I think any white male who has been job hunting in the past 10 years can tell stories of how he was discriminated against.

For me: In spite of superior qualifications, I've lost out on jobs or promotions at various times...2 to white women, 1 to a black man, and 1 to an Asian woman
