More U.S. companies are expected to increase their hiring in the fourth quarter, reversing a downward trend seen since early this year, according to a closely watched employment survey.
"This is another indication that we may be finding our way out of this difficult period we've been in," said Jeffrey Joerres, chairman and chief executive officer of Manpower Inc., the Milwaukee temporary-staffing agency that has conducted the survey for decades. "As soon as I say that though I have to hesitate because it's only one quarter."

This is being floated to get more H1b visas authorized for next year.

Just a little crazy speculation on my part.
Not everyone in this country writes code for a living.

Don't be KRAZY....harpseal is right. Manpower is part of the global inernational conspiracy with Interpol and Queen Elizabeth to fudge their long running survey to generate more visas!
DUH!

I was kind of hoping we could get a nude protest going. Nothing says "we mean business" like nudity.

I like the way you think presidio9. If I recall, Brazil has the highest per capital expenditures on plastic surgery, and higher percentage of Brazilian women respond to surveys that they are "very concerned" about their appearance. May I suggest Rio as the location for our protest?

I am a cynic when it comes to hiring. I want to see a the companies start hiring on a large scale basis. I do not want to see more H1 or L1 visas issued by the USA when our unemployment numbers are as high as they are. When the companies start hiring flag me and I will cheer but until I see it I shall remain a skeptic.

I plan on adding positions to my company later this year. I have a small business and business is growing.

Outstanding I am really glad to hear that. I have a couple of businesses in place and I may be adding several positions on a new one that is taking off but I have people lined up for those positions already.
My question is, however, how will these anecdotal decisions factor into the overall economy. As I said I will remain skeptical of predictions until I see results.

Sadly, the majority of nude protestors seem to be the type of people that you would do anything to get them to put some clothes on. Yoko Ono has a big nude protest planned.

I'm a cynic when it comes to hiring too.
And I sure don't see any good reason to issue H1 or L1 visas when unemployment is high.
In the long run, I would love to see open borders for labor, as Europe is now working towards. But in the short run that would be rather disruptive to say the least.
