On September 17, 2003, millions of students will gather around their schools' flagpoles to intercede in prayer for their schools, families, friends, communities, and countries. This year's event will be especially timely, as students reflect on the recent terrorist attacks on the United States. It will be a time of renewal and increasing faith as students pray for God's protection, guidance, and healing.
We hope the articles and resources we've put together [links below] will help you better understand the power of prayer, your faith, what it means to be broken before God, and God's never-ending love for you. . . .

My fiance is a teacher here in Phoenix. Her staff was informed yesterday that the school district's policy is that the teachers are not allowed to attend the prayers at the poles.
When some of the teachers complained and asked for a copy of the specific policy which banned the pole prayers for teachers, the district responded by sending a letter of complaint from the Jewish Anti-Defamation League. No specific district policy against teachers attending the prayers has yet to be cited.

Happy to report that the principal of our local high school here in California extended the invitation to SYATP to all teachers (can you believe it?!)! Praise the Lord.

Lots of students showed at poles in my neck of the woods. I joined the group at my daughter's private school - about 10% of the student body was present. And it was really swell to hear my own daughter pray in public.

No specific district policy against teachers attending the prayers has yet to be cited. If they're on duty (typically 7-3:00), maybe teachers could be enjoined from participating, but if not, the district would be hard-pressed to justify denial of First Amendment rights.
