A prominent British Eurosceptic has described the murder of the Swedish foreign minister Anna Lindh as the act of a "patriot" and called upon other anti-euro campaigners to be prepared to take similar action against government figures here.
Police are investigating whether Greg Lance-Watkins, who runs EuroRealist, an internet site which is virulently against Britain's membership of the EU, has acted illegally.
Ms Lindh, 46, a leading proponent of the pro-euro campaign in Sweden which culminates today in a referendum on whether to join the currency, was stabbed by an unknown assailant four days ago. Mr Lance-Watkins has issued a statement welcoming the attack on Ms Lindh.
He calls British ministers "traitors" for signing away the UK's sovereignty and says they should be tried for treason.
In e-mails sent to a variety of organisations, he said: "I do hope there will be patriots in Britain with the courage to deal with traitors that has been shown in Sweden.
"If our corrupt politicians force us to take the same route to defend our economy and country . . . then I suggest the first patriot to take direct action is remembered by putting his or her statue on the remaining plinth in Trafalgar Square." A spokesman for Gwent Police said: "We will look at these e-mails to see if there is anything of a criminal nature."
Last night Mr Lance-Watkins stood by his comments. "Yes, I do support the execution of elected politicians when they seek to betray the electorate and their country," he said.

The British once beheaded their own king for attempting to weaken their national sovreignity. Charles I was planning to bring in foreign troops, really bad idea.

Sounds like a GREAT idea - much less blood than a revolution.
Simply get rid of those communists that are destroying your country. After a whilw, the rest of the cowardly left-wing radicals that are attempting to suck in every nation in Europe into one more REICH will scurry off like slimy rats.
Maybe that is what is needed here?

I'm sorry, I'm confused. Is this guy in Britain or California?

Gee, what a way to damage the Eurosceptic cause. All decent Eurosceptics must denounce this nutcase. This guy's as big an idiot as the people that think murder of abortionists helps the pro-life cause.

Remember - they are NOT the USA, and we may be in their situation here soon if the people don't wake up and maintain our second amendment rights.
Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States.

The "execution" of King Charles I, a good and pious man, was a criminal act with absolutely no foundation in English law whatsoever.
Charles I was planning to bring in foreign troops
Not true. Charles I was also King of Scotland; he had every right to appeal to his Scottish subjects to crush a rebellion in England. The union of the crowns meant that for all practical purposes, Scots were not "foreign."
For the truth about this martyred king, see Goetz_von_Berlichingen's posts on this old Cromwell thread.

I don't expect you to rehash your defense of Charles I. But I would be interested in your response to the article at the top of this thread.

King Charles wasn't stabbed to death by a LONE independent ; I was referring to the fate which awaits "leaders" who arouse the fury of their people. A Romanian dictator and his wife also come to mind, were they also martyrs

I disapprove the murder of political opponents because it bypasses all non-violent forms of protest and obstruction. Every peaceful means should be tried before the resort to force.
Even then, the use of force should be proportionate to the evil inflicted by the executive. For example, Hitler, Stalin, and Lenin could have been justly assasinated because there were no means of non-violent obstruction available, but more importantly because their own crimes were of a capital nature.

Some freepers seem to think it a good idea. Well, the thing is, this Swedish minister was advocating what she thought to be the correct position. This is merely politics. The voters are the ones charged with making the decision- the referendum. The minister had one vote like everyone else. The way we decide things in a democratic form of government is at the ballot box. You don't run around and kill everyone who disagrees with you. That's the way a despot functions. If, at the end of the day, you find yourself living in a country where most people want the Euro (or whatever) and you really don't like it, you have the option to leave to sunnier climes.
This killing was no act of patriotism. It was the sort of thing Saddam might've done.

I agree completely.
