[history]
September 12, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - U.S. military forces in northern Iraq captured 80 foreign fighters from several Arab countries on suspicion that they are part of a new al Qaeda offensive against American troops, officials said yesterday.
Pentagon officials said the suspected terrorists were nabbed by the Army's 101st Airborne Division and the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment between Mosul and the Syrian border.

Details from the raids yesterday. The way wartime headlines used to be written when AMERICA'S press was on America's side.
If you want on or off my pro-Coalition ping list, please Freepmail me. Warning: it's a high volume ping list (not high enough to compete w/ the enemy press. Help!)

If this all checks out, it will prove once again that we are taking the war to them--and they cannot come over here and attack us again. It should also slow down the attacks on our fighting men in the Middle East. Seems like nothing but good news to me!

And we're going to allow trained Iraqi police (former Saddam military) to guard the borders. Sounds like a Patsy Shroeder or Al Gore idea.

Could you please consider whether this should be posted in Breaking News? I think it should, but that's just one guy's opinion.
Thanks.

as well as $75,000 in Iraqi dinars. Isn't that like 85 truck loads?
U.S. officials suspect they are part of a growing al Qaeda foreign legion
Growing? When did it start?
Oh wait is can't be we all no that Iraq and Al-qaeda are not connected, what was I thinking?

I've read several articles, and talked to a few people that were had wringing over the fact that all those terrorists were flocking to Iraq to take on the US forces.
Most of us figured getting them into one place - a killing zone - so to speak would be a good thing. Let em come to us instead of having to hunt them down. Looks like we, and The President had it right.

Seems like nothing but good news to me! Even better, when you catch 80 guys, you're gonna learn a bunch about where they came from, who trained them and where, who their commanders are, and on and on.
It also tells me that we had some pretty good intel -- 80 terrorists in one spot is a big haul.
This oughta start some dominoes falling all over the Arab world. I doubt we'll hear about much of it, though, as this is the "hidden war" about which Bush warned us early on.

Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Sudan and Syria Big surprise. These are all countries that we kiss up to and should have bombed already.
To: ChadGore
The Rats are already saying that there were no Al Qaeda in Iraq before we got there --- in effect suggesting that we ruined the place. And if we find any WMD you can rest assured knowing that they'll claim we planted them ourselves.
