When the news came out that he was going to drive the #1 they also mentioned he had two commitments to drive for Childress which he would be allowed to honor.Oh, Ok.
My three horse trifecta last week came up one winner, one came up lame #8, and the other, #29 was bumped in the stretch. If that had been a horse race the 21 would have been disqualified. I'm sticking with those three this week. Tony Stewart looked like he had a great car too, but he's in the back. We'll see what he can do.
Well, you had 1 lame and 2 brought down by running out of gas so good picking, but bad luck.
BTW, can anyone catch Kenseth?? Anyone have any guesses?
He'd have to have a run of bad luck...Skinner or Bodine style bad luck. :^)

Yep. He was going to drive the #30, but Childress is going to be providing a 4th car for him.Cool. I'm still amazed at Childress' resurgence. I didn't know that team had it in them. Childress is a good owner and has always had dependable cars and aggressive drivers and good on-track decision-making and that's how they would win. I can't believe they have fast cars now too.
'Tis nice to catch nearly caution-free race, though what was Flash Gordon thinking?
Didn't memorize the ones that were pitting around him, but it would be hard to be on top of everything all the time. He obviously felt bad about it in the interview.

In other motorsports news today, history was made when Skip Holm cut a 500mph lap en route to his fourth win in the Unlimited Class at the 40th annual Reno Air Races. Piloting a highly modified P-51 Mustang, Holm took the lead at the start of today's race and never looked back. Finishing second was John Penney, piloting a highly modified Bearcat around the 8.48 mile course. Turnout for todays racing was in excess of 100,000. Next year's races are set for Thursday September 16th through Sunday September 19th. You gotta see this, gang!

More like Marlin's season-ending crash last year, or maybe Elliot's 6-race collapse of '92 or Bobby Allison's record 341-point drop of '81 (which took 11 races to disappear). 404 points over 9 races is an average of just under 45 points a race (just less than the 46-point difference between 1st and 10th or 2nd and 13th). Even if Matt has 9 43rds, Jr. would need to average 28th to pass him. More amazing, Dale would have to do more than just show up even if Kenseth gets hurt before Dover (an average finish of 39th would do it, but 40th wouldn't).
Indeed, if a single driver dominates all 9 races (wins from the pole and leads the most laps), the last driver that could do it assuming Kenseth collapses into 43rd every race is Johnny Benson. If Kenseth doesn't race again this year, he's still guaranteed to finish ahead of Kenny Wallace.

That's OK, it's good to have a midwesterner in there. Kenseth certainly deserves a champoinship. Not so sure about Roush. Dale Jr can vie for runner-up. Harvick's so hot that might not be so easy.

Yeah, unless Kenseth gets injured, you can stick a fork in this season. There's always the Busch series (111th between 1st and 5th, and Bobby Hamilton Jr's also closer to David Green than Little E is to Kenseth) and the Craftsman Truck Series (Brendan Gaughan's lead is 9, and Rick Crawford's 7th is only 186 back). There's something to be said about consistency.

Dale Jr has had good runs everywhere, they just had some terminal (or near terminal) breakdowns here and there.

Thanks for the scoop. Is there anywhere I can find how the points system works? It just seems so complicated.
To: WestCoastGal
NASCAR's own explanation
here. Short version:
Hopefully, now you know that when one of us says, "Driver X stays out to get 5 bonus points", he's led his first lap of the day.
Owners' team points, used to set the starting grid when qualifying is rained out and to help determine who gets provisionals (PLEASE don't ask about provisionals), are awarded much the same way, but there's 2 differences. First, owners' points are given even if a team doesn't qualify for a race (the team with 44th-fastest car gets 31 owners' points, and it decreases by 3 until it hits 1). Second, the owners' points stays with the team, while the driver's points follows the driver (biggest example is out of the Busch series, where the #21 RCR/Payday Chevy shared by Johnny Sauter and Kevin Harvick has the most owners' points while Sauter (who drives the #43 Curb/Channellock Chevy when Harvick is Busch-whacking) is 7th in the drivers' standings).
