Candidates Speak On "Armstrong & Getty Show"

POSTED: 12:13 p.m. PDT September 12, 2003 UPDATED: 1:27 p.m. PDT September 12, 2003

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom McClintock had a date of sorts Friday morning.

The hosts of Sacramento talk radio program "The Armstrong and Getty Show" on Talk 650 KSTE arranged a surprise on-air confrontation between the two. McClintock asked Schwarzenegger repeatedly to debate him, and the actor demurred.

McClintock asked: "We've got a Republican convention coming up this weekend, you and I are the two Republican candidates now left in the race, why don't we get together and discuss the major issues of this campaign?"

Schwarzenegger replied that he'd be, in his words, "more than happy" to "get together" with the state senator from Northridge.

McClintock repeated his question: "Can we do that in a debate before the convention Saturday? We're both going to be there."

Schwarzenegger said "No," adding that he would be more than happy to meet with McClintock and discuss issues.

The actor then told McClintock the important thing is to work together on issues. McClintock extended the debate offer a final time and Schwarzenegger signed off by saying, "We will talk about all those things, and we will have a great time at the Republican convention."

A Los Angeles Times poll released late Thursday showed McClintock with support from 18 percent of likely voters to Schwarzenegger's 25 percent. McClintock's support grew 6 percentage points since the August poll, while Schwarzenegger's grew 3 percentage points. Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante was the leading candidate in the poll, with 30 percent.

"The Armstrong & Getty Show" also airs on KQCA-58 TV.

Like I'd expect sense or truth from an unapologetic liar like you. What nerve you have.

I heard that current polling data now shows that McClintock would beat Bustanut 42% to 40% head to head if Aahnuld drops out. However, Aahnuld would beat Bustanazi by 45% to 40% if McClintock drops out.

One if them has to drop out. The Sooner the better.

I have never seen that figure. Where did you get it?

I have only seen that McC would lose handily, and Schw win handily.

Love the screenie, BTW.

>>>I think Arnold just doesn't want to embarress McClintock.

Hahahahahahaha You're funny, but also very pathetic.

Here's the facts. Your boy Arnold lacks the cojones to face McClintock, one on one, man to man. Arnold is a chicken s**t liberal (RINO) Republican who does well in a controlled environment. Like the softball interview O'Reilly gave him the other night. Arnold can't think on his feet and needs coaching to tell him how to act and what to say in public. Sort of like his movie career. LOL

suppose Arnold withdraws, probably half his support will go to Tom and half to Bustamante.

IMO, if Arnie drops out Tom would be very lucky to get around 55% of Arnies vote. The rest could not bring themselves to vote for the "extreme social conservative - Tom McClintock" Most of the rest - 45% - would vote for no recall or not vote. Tom will not get much more than 40%, no matter what.

So, did ambrose ever answer your question, in any form?

No. He did claim to be opposed to any delay in the election.

But he NCND'd on the question of whether he is, in fact, Rick Hasen. Therefore, I have no trust or confidence in anything he says.

You haven't answered the question: why should he?

He's not running against McClintock.

McClintock is running against Schwarzenegger. He hasn't said a word about Bustamante. Hell, he even takes big wads of cash from Bustamante supporters.

So you saw Clinton get away with lying and not owning up to it, and you thought you'd try? People would just forget?

You're no Clinton.

And conservatives don't lie and shift blame.

As you did.

The guy who apparently filed the amicus brief with the 9th Circuit. ambrose's original post made it sound like he was Rick Hasen.
